| I'm not a camera person yet, but I'm trying!! I'd come across this article when I was wondering the same thing. What Is... ISO - Digital Photography Tutorial - Photoxels I just realized you can click back one step to "tutorials" & the site has a ton of great info.

I don't have a new camera yet, so I've been reading all these articles thinking "ok, I understand that." But I know I won't really until I actually have the camera to play with. Sorry I couldn't help!

| As an example, the darker the room the higher the ISO should be so that you can see objects or people in the room more clearly. For the old film cameras (remember those) before digital cameras, you could take a picture without a flash if you used a high ISO film.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | The High iso Is used for when you cant use a flash Like these You can't use a flash at a circus Or any place like that. Rob Galbraith DPI: A first look at Nikon D3S high ISO image quality, plus the new 70-200mm f/2.8 |

Keep in mind that using high ISOs can cause (sometimes) a more grainy appearance, rather than more crisp, but sometimes you would not even notice....and sometimes, I really dig grainy anyway!
