Black Pudding is a far cry from chocolate Betty.

Best description of Black Pudding is :

"Black pudding is a blend of onions, pork fat, oatmeal, flavourings - and blood (usually from a pig). As long as animals have been slaughtered to provide food, blood sausages like black pudding have been in existence."

A typical "Full English Breakfast" would consist of :

Black Pudding
Mushrooms
Fried Egg
Fried Bread
Baked Beans
Sausage
Bacon
Toast
Tea or Coffee

You will see this breakfast being consumed in any hotel you enter but will also see parts of the items above also being called a "full English" breakfast.

Our baked beans are nothing like yours and I have to say I did not like the American Baked Beans (it's what your pallet is used to huh)

Our bacon is not the fatty stuff I was shown in USA and there is other differences.

I am glad you asked the question it has now added a point of interest to the thread.

Well in all honesty we only have it on a Sunday then nothing more till our evening meal.

The next time you are in UK pop over and see us and Joan will treat you to a fantastic full English Breakfast...lol

Your bacon looks way better than what we have over here. I would much prefer that. I did not get a chance to have a real English breakfast when I was in London about 10 yrs ago. We stayed in a very cheap hotel, and we would wake up and go straight to the train stations. We did love the Upper Crust sandwiches though. We'd get two each, one for breakfast, and one for lunch.

You can keep the black pudding, Brian ... but that bacon looks really good. Those baked beans look more "red" than our baked beans - is there molasses in yours? We bake our own beans and those look more like that, although we add hamburger, chilli sauce, and a few other ingredients when we make them from scratch.

Over here a favourite snack would be a "bacon Butty" now I bet that one has you Americans confused so I will educate you a little more in English food.

A Bacon Butty is just two slices of bread covered in butter and loaded with bacon. You can put all sorts of sauces on to taste but I never do as I like to taste the bacon.

We also have bacon and sausage butty and lots of other mixtures like that.

If you ever try eating egg and bacon butty just make sure you bend right forward or you end up with egg yoke running down you chest....lol

LOL....every American I have spoken to about black pudding have said the same thing and I can understand why from the recipe but it has to be tasted to be believed.

I had an American visitor stay with me for two weeks not long after my first wife died.
I cooked her breakfast and too the opportunity to serve Black Pudding.
She shoved the lot down her neck saying it was amazing stuff.

She then asked what it was and when I told her explaining the ingredients she looked at me over her glasses and said.

"Thank God you dint tell me this BEFORE I ate it"....lol

Black pudding doesn't scare me. I'm Asian. We have pork blood type gelatin stuff. One with rice in it, and another without with a more smooth texture. It gets cut into cubes and you eat it in rice congee (porridge). Ours though is more of a brick color, not black, bc it's mostly blood.

Yes I have actually eaten the meal you describe above and liked it.

I have no idea why it is called Black Pudding because it is brown in colour and in no way pudding...lol
