Never Give UP! Smiling because it is deliciously (is there such a word) warm in Petaluma, CA today. Charlie is asleep by the open door, and Sophia snoring softly in her crate. I admit to giving in to the afternoon lull, and taking a brief rest. Isn't it strange how a year can make such a difference in our lives? At this time last year, I was working at Washington Mutual, hadn't adopted Sophia yet and never would have dreamed I would be writing from California. Keep busy with volunteer efforts via telecommuting for People United for Pets in Washington. Complete all of the microchip registrations and very rewarding. Joined the local garden club, and looking for more volunteer efforts. However, I am dragging my feet to change license plates (supposed to within 20 days), and found out I don't have to acquire California driver's license until mine WA. expires in January. Hooray! There is something about seeing the WA. license on my car that makes me comfortable. How is everyone? Susie, I still think about Tink and when I look at her picture, it is so vivid when she was so ill. Prognosis was dark...however, Tink had lots to do yet in her life. Are you feeling well? Moving? Let's see. How is Judy and those delightful pups? Wemple (Kathy) sounds like you are enjoying your job and it is rewarding. What is Winston up to? Bought a new camera, and will shoot a few pictures of the pups to post. My old digital, which took great pictures, kept freezing up when the lens would appear. Take good care and glad to see the email from Tink's Rowdy Mom in Gmail account. Warmly, Deborah, Charlie and Sophia;) |
Hi guys, Winston has been a sick pup, he has gone 3 days without eating...we finally got him to eat a tiny bit today. He's been vomiting and had massive bloody stools, which was quite scary. We've been trying to keep his blood sugar up with NutriCal...but he still had 2 seizures. He's seen his regular vet and today he saw his Internist. They did a bunch of blood test today and she said she'd call me with the results on Monday. She gave him an injection for the nausea, an antibiotic and something to coat his stomach...hoping to calm it down, so he can eat. Poor little guy is exhausted and fast asleep right now...I worry about him, so much. Hoping all is well with every one...keep my boy in your prayers...please. |

I am doing very well. I can walk without my cane on a flat surface - like my living room, and haven't used the walker for weeks! My back is giving me some trouble, but I expected that. Tink sends some nose licks to Uncle Charlie and a hug to Sophia. Quote:

Thanks guys...Winston is still very ill, he ate maybe a teaspoon of baby food tonight. I've tried canned pumpkin...he's just not interested, so I put some on my finger and stuck it in his mouth. I guess I'm going to have to force feed the little poop. His stools still look awful, runny squirts. He's had more butt baths this past week then he's had in his entire life time. His stomach just gurgles loudly. Going to take another stool sample to the vet tomorrow...it's not as bloody as it was at first, but there's still some bloody mucus. This is so unlike him...he's never had digestive problems before, I don't know what else to do for him. Deborah I am happy to hear that you are enjoying California and have found good use of your time. Susie, I am really happy to hear you are getting around so much better now...without your walker. I'd say your knee surgeries were successful...wonderful! |
Kathy, I am so sorry to here about Winston. Poor guy. :( Do you have a holistic vet near you? I ask because my holistic vet can offer up some Chinese herbs that work better than traditional medicine. My vet gives us Early Comfort - this herbal has remedied the worst bloody diarrhea, etc This page lists the herbs in the product Kan Herbals - Individual Product Information It is something humans can use, the dogs have it in small doses. I just keep it on hand now, as I have seen how well it works |
Poor little big thread! I'm sorry I haven't had the time to post on you for a couple of weeks. I'm in Austin doing an audit and havn't had any time of my own. BUT, next week I'm on vacation and I'll have some time when I'm not loving on my daughter! Today is her 25th birthday. |
Susie, we do miss you around here.:) Hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday. How nice that you're in Austin for it! lol, Bernie must know I'm talking to Tink's mommy, he jumped up here an keeps banging on the keyboard with his paw, silly boy, he's making it incredibly hard to type. |
No one is going to recognize Tink the next time they see her. Bernie, I hope you can love a naked Tink!:( My son-in-law freeked out when he saw a tick on his arm and was afraid one would get on Tink and I would get upset, so he shaved her down to her skin!!!! He called to tell me after the fact and what could I say except "I wish you wouldn't have done that. We can get a tick off of her if we need to but her hair takes a very long time to grow out." I am not a happy mama. Plus poor little Tink is bitten to pieces and scratched all over and has welts on her chest from Maya attacking her. Tink is so submissive, I don't understand it at all. We try to keep them apart when one or the other of us comes into the room or both of the dogs come in from the back yard, but Maya usually manages to get to Tink anyway. It's really been awful. I feel so sorry for little Tink - and she still wants to play with Maya! I end up carrying her around the house with me to keep Maya away from her. I guess it's a possessive attitude from Maya over her mom and dad. I don't know what else to think. It sure is sad. :( |

Dis is Bernie. I been shaved a wot! Dont worry, u still be pwetty! U will wike it wen u mommy stawts to see u hair growing back. She will say...o Tink, u so fuzzy, wet me kiss u! Its da best!!! Wuv, Bernie |
Hi Bernie my boy. Dis is Tink. Tank you for telling me mama wiwl wub me more wif soft hairs. I hab wots of hurts on me but de are healing. I gotted three stitches on my arm from where Maya's daddy cut me wif da hair clippers. It hurted and I bweeded awot. Bit I'm otay now. I gotted the stitches out on Fursday. Dat Maya bear keeps biting me and it hurts me wots but I stiwl wub her. She doesn't want me to be by her mama and daddy so I twy to stay away. I have to wet her go in her house furst and den my mama watches me go in da house so Maya doesn't get me. sometimes mama can't get to me fast enough doh and I get bited anyway. But we are going home tomorrow and I'll be safe. Kathy, how is Winston doing? Still good I hope. And Deborah, Hope Charlie and Sophia are in good shape too. Judy, when does school start? I imagine you are getting ready for all the kiddies to come joyfully running into the classroom.;) I finally got the approval to move to Austin, so I think January will be the month since that is when my apartment lease is up. Spent some time this week looking at apartments here in Austin and think I've found the one for me. I'll pay the administrative fee to hold it as soon as I confirm the move date with my manager when I get home. Boy is it hot down here! That is going to take some major getting used to but I think I'll prefer it to the -30 degree temps in the Wisconsin winters. |
Oh, my sweet Tinkerbelle. Uncle Charlie is so sorry you are almost running around naked (Mama just gave me the look). I think you should wear a cover-up so the other boys don't surround your house. You know how boys are, Tink, we mark our territory. :p Mama says it just wonderful that you are moving to Austin, and be closer to your sister. Maya will have to learn some manners and stop biting you. You know what Tink, I am the same way and don't fight back. Maybe I am a lover, not a fighter (Oh, oh...Mama just gave me another look). My sister Sophia is the nicest friend to me. She lets me be the big brother, and I usually lay in both of our beds. Mama is so glad she adopted Sophia plus she bought her some cute summer dresses although it is too hot here in California to wear them. Have we heard how Winston is feeling? Take good care Tink and remember "decorum" if you sit in front of the window too long  Love, Uncle Charlie, Sophia and Deborah |
Hi everyone. We're home. Got in around 12:30 this morning, took Tink out of her carrier, put on my pjs and went straight to bed. 5:30 comes too early. Anyway it's good to be home in my own bed. I think what took one day to pack is going to take a couple to unpack. I couldn't find my car keys after the plane landed so had to take a taxi to my office and unpack my suitcase and laptop case looking for them. I finally found them in the laptop case right where I has originally put them so they wouldn't get lost! Anyway it cost me an hour and 30 minutes...WAH! Uncle Charlie, don't worry, Tink is wearing her pretty dresses to cover her nakedness. I'll get a picture of her in one of them this week and post it for you. How is everyone doing? |
First time I've checked out this thread. Interesting conversations. Susie, it's great to hear from you. Think about you. Glad you're getting to move to TX. Poor Tink. She has such beautiful black hair. Thank Goodness it grows back. Guess it's a good excuse to go buy some cute little dresses. Also great that you have shed your walker and can walk without a cane on flat surfaces. Take care! ~Joanne~ |
Welcome home, Susie! I hope you can take some time to r-e-l-a-x. Give Tink big hugs. Bernie can't wait to see her pic. LOL, just put in my first two full days since June (getting things ready) and this full-time working wore me out.;) Kathy, I hope Winston is still doing well. How's the new job going? Deborah, seems like ages since I've run into you here. I hope all is well. Joanne, on behalf of the TK crew, welcome, pull up a seat! Glad to see you here! |
Hi everybody...things are simply fantastic here, Winston is 100% back to his normal self, thanks for your concern. I was plenty worried about him, it was so pitiful. Welcome home Susie! Tink, your beauty shines from within, I bet your mom has you looking sweet as ever. Hi Deborah..miss chatting with you...hugs to you and your wee ones. Judy the school year has just begun, hope it goes well and you get back into the routine soon. Welcome Joanne to TK...stick around, jump in and join us at any time. My job at the clinic...I couldn't ask for better people to work with, but it is getting more hectic every single day. They are so very short handed, we are almost too busy, believe it or not. But I have to admit that I am finally content with my position, I really do love it there. Hope this finds you all doing well, hugs to all!!! |

No one has time for the TK gang anymore. :( |
I'm here to say I killed the "Ban Thread" twice in one day...:D |
I haven't been doing much posting on any forum lately. Guess I'm just not in the mood. I'm still adjusting to my new place and trying to figure out what to do with barking Tinka. I have tried so many things to get her to stop barking while I'm gone and nothing is working. Her time is going to be up soon if she doesn't stop cause the apartment next to me has been rented now. I am at my wits end here. I don't like no bark collars but if I could afford one, I probably would try one considering the alternatives. :( We've had snow a couple of times but it melted by the next day. Very chilly weather for us in October... |

I was reading an article on barking problems and they said that some of these products work well and others don't because of the personality of the dog. If the dog is extremely persistant (stubborn ) and more of the independent type, things like the ultra sonic things won't work. My Tinka is one like that... resistant to most everything - she just wants ME to be home with her. I have to figure something out, I can't face another loss now. Anyone have any other ideas? |
Hi!!! Sorry to hear you're having problems with Tinka barking, hope you are able to get it under control. Does she only bark when you leave her? Winston only barks while looking out the window, so to prevent that while we're away from home, I have him gated in the kitchen, where he can not see out the windows. He has his bed, his food, water and a few choice toys. I'm pretty sure he just curls up in his bed and sleeps all day. Or you could try leaving a radio or TV on to silence noises she may be hearing from outside. Good luck, keep us posted... |
