| Thinking of adopting two mini schnauzers - any advice? We adopted Sugar, our Yorkie, 3 months ago and she's been wonderful. She wants a playmate but our cat thinks that dogs are beneath him and won't play w/ Sugar. We've been thinking about finding another Yorkie to adopt/rescue so I've been searching on petfinder.com but most of the Yorkies are marked as not appropriate for children - my daughters are 7 & 5 and there really aren't any close to me. Today I found two male mini schnauzers who, according to the foster mom, are wonderful dogs...great w/ other animals, love kids, housebroken, crate trained, no bad habits, UTD on shots. They are both 2 years old. These dogs have been raised together and she said she would like to adopt them out together but that they can be separated. I wouldn't want to separate them because I don't want to make the adjustment to a new home harder on them. My questions is...does anyone know anything about mini schnauzers and how would they do w/ my female yorkie? They've all been fixed so I wouldn't have to worry about any hanky-panky. Do schnauzers shed? Am I crazy to go from one extremely easy dog to 3 dogs? These dogs are around 4 hrs away from my house and I will take Sugar & my daughters to meet them if we decide to do this. Also, since these dogs are coming from a rescue situation am I right in assuming that they won't come w/ their cages, dishes, etc? I need to email the lady again to get more info so if you know of anything I need to ask let me know. Any info/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| Schnauzers are all my aunt ever had. She always had 2 at a time. They got along with everyone except my cousin's chow.(but no one liked him). My uncle drove an 18 wheeler and she and the 2 boys would ride along sometimes. She took them every where she went. I don't know what else I could tell you? She thinks they were the only kind of dogs one should have....

YT 1000 Club Member | I can't think of anything you should ask right now but i'll get back at you later for that. But I do think you should get them becaue it' a win-win situation all around... And I wouldn't expect to take the crate and reusable items because they can be used for other foster animals but you should atleast get some things that are familiar with them (blacket, bed, toys, or/and etc.)... Good luck! |

| Thanks. I'm really curios about the shedding if anyone knows. It wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it's so nice not to have piles of dog hair hiding under my table & inside our shoes. Now if I can talk my husband into the $450 she's asking and the almost 4 hr drive each way I might be able to get my new babies. My husband is out of town all next week and Sunday is out of the question because he has to watch football all day so that leaves tomorrow - after 2 soccer games - or next Saturday - w/ 2 more soccer games of course.

| I'm pretty sure schnauzers do shed but I'm not positive on that. They are normally pretty high energy dogs - they are definitely terriers

| We have 2 mini schnauzers with our yorkie and I believer you will never regret taking these two. Schnauzers do not shed and they are know as the dog with the human brain. They are sooooo intelligant. They also talk the schnauzer talk. Mine have been talking since they were babies. Ours are very layed back but they are older now. I have 2 females and one of the females is not much bigger than my yorkie. We lost our male at the age of 13 1/2 yrs. in May to diabetes. Almost broke my heart and I am still hurting. This little yorkie has been a blessing. She takes naps with the smaller schnauzer and the other one she plays alot with . So, now we have Mandy, Tina and little Kayla. Good luck on what you decide but I think you will learn to love schnauzers just like I have learned to love yorkies. I thought I would never have anything but a schnauzer and then we get this little toot. |

| Thanks for all of the responses. I think I'll start begging...uh, I mean, convincing my husband that we really need to get these two sweet guys. He wants them also but the price & distance are holding him back.

| Tell him you'll drive and see if you can negotiate the price a little when you get there. I'm sure if she sees they're going to a good home she will lower the price some.

| I have a female Mini Schnauzer, too. No, they don't shed, just need grooming like Yorkies do. Mine is 8 years old. She is very headstrong but a good dog. |

| Oh wow....I am tearing up reading your post. I found a Schauzer at our local shelter 15 years ago and I adopted her. I was only 19 at that time and a college student so needless to say,my parents did eventually end up getting Mollie. My mom was VERY against having an indoor dog and said they would only keep her until I found another home for her. Yeah right....within 2 weeks, they were telling me that she was their dog and that I should not plan on ever getting her back from them. LOL!! To this very day,I adore the Schnauzer breed!! Mollie was HIGHLY intelligent and just as loving and sweet!!!!!! Whenever someone was sad or sick, she would not leave your side. I can remember being sick and her not leaving my bed to even eat. She would get on our lap and put her face under our chin and push as hard as she could....we started calling that her hugs. "Mollie, give me a hug." and she would. She was absolutely perfect! Ok,that's it for me....sorry to have rambled. You just brought back some very wonderful memories for me. Mollie had to be put to sleep about 3 years ago and our family still cries when we talk about her. Special breed and you will feel that same, I'm sure. | I had an email from her this morning and someone came and adopted them yesterday. I'm so bummed. I didn't really plan to adopt 2 dogs, but these guys sounded perfect. She was asking $450 for the pair and my daughter's actually said they would give up 2 sessions (16 wks) of gymnastics to pay for them. So, now I'm searching again. I would really like to get a young male yorkie but I'm not having any luck. They're either too expensive, don't like kids, or are too far away. I want to adopt one that needs a new loving home. I'm hoping it's potty-trained (hopefully!), male (I don't know if this really matters but I'm guessing Sugar would like it more if it's not another female), and one that likes kids. It would be spoiled rotten and loved to pieces. I guess I might just have to wait a while to find the perfect match. We found Sugar & everything worked out perfectly, there has to be another one out there looking for my family. I found Sugar on petfinder.com's classified section. Her mommy was looking for a new home for her because she was working so many hours and Sugar was spending all of her time in a cage. She didn't want any money, she just wanted Sugar to find a loving home. I gave her $50 to at least pay for the supplies she gave us even though she didn't want it. Sugar is now in heaven because I'm a stay at home mom so she's rarely in her cage (maybe 1-2 hrs total per week) and we spend all of our time together. I'm praying that we can find another one just like Sugar.

| I have a 10yr old mini schnauzer. They dont shed at all. Not even a little but. Phoebe is the sweetest most loving and loyal dog I have ever had. she knows a million tricks. I highly recommend Schnauzers.

| I don't know how far you are willing to travel but there are AKC Schnauzers listed in our local paper. I'm not really that far from you.
