| you said it was temp...is this a Casual Clerk position? I just applied for one of those jobs here in my town and had my interview, drug screen, physical and fingerprints done on Thursday. I will hear back this week. I haven't taken a civil service exam, did you take one? You can't get a full time, benefits job with the PO without one (as I was told). Good luck with your decision.

| Well...I would take the job. If necessary take other part-time jobs to supplement. But I would without a doubt take the job offer...think of your future, it will be well worth it.

| My husband worked for the FAA (federal avation agency) for all our married life. My daughter in law works for the post office and my daughter is a teacher all three have said at one time or another and I agree that what's most important is that you love what you are doing. What one person would like another would not.

| I'm so happy for you! Isn't it a great confidence-booster to at least get the offer? My advice would be, if you can afford it, take the job. You wouldn't be stuck in a stuffy office with the same old people all the time. You're bound to become full-time sooner or later. Not to change topics, but keep your fingers crossed for me. I finally had my interview on Thursday. I think it went very well (panel interview - me and six people!). I should hear something soon as they said they were going to make a decision quickly. YOU GO GIRL!!! |

I took the P.O. test this past July. Then, they sent the 20 page application that I had only a couple of days to fill out and send back to the Corpus office. I've only had the interview so far and then they called 3 days later to offer me the job. I guess the next step will be to do all the other stuff you mentioned. I'm going to call back on Monday and take the job. I decided that I could substitute teach (I have enough earned college hours) and it'll be more flexible. Only thing is not having benefits. But you never know...those could be right aroud the corner, too!

| well, you know taking that test was huge...full time and benefits are probably only right around the corner. My interviewer explained to me that they hardly ever offer that test anymore, so your lucky to have already taken it...sounds like your well on your way to a full time PO job!! Congrats!!

| If you can sub teaching that is great and so much better than part time low pay jobs. I think you make a wise decision and looked at it from about every angle. Look Luck to you and they will be lucky to have you just as the schools are....what is nice you still have your foot in the door with the schools too.

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | As far as insurance check into your Cobra rights. I think it is when you leave your employer you can get coverage for 18 months or so after a qualifying event. Loss of insurance is a qualifying event. You have 90 days to take the coverage and it is retro to the insurance term date. So basicly you can wait and see if you get benefits during the 3 month period and if you do don't apply for the Cobra and you haven't paid any premiums. If you don't get benefits you can take the coverage retro to the term date but you would have to pay the back premium. Just make sure you check with yout Human resource dept on all this.
