| aol I paid for AOL for a number of years. Then I saw an ad that said.."Free AOL"...so I signed up..why was I paying $25 per month for something I get free and it is better? I got to keep my same address. It is faster, no problems for two full months..it was never problem free when I paid for it..totally puzzled! |

| aol I had my monthly payment charged to my Discover card..and I asked Discover to reissue a new card number for me..that stopped AOL from automatically billing me..it is illegal to allow charges on the new card without permission.. |

| aol I paid for it also..for at least 10 yrs...then one day on my home page it said..Click Here for Free AOL..I signed up and it is free..my brother kept telling me I was silly to pay for a free service..but I did not believe I could keep my email addy...what makes me mad, is the fact aol always said any problem was with my computer, not them..not so.. Example..when I used to go to YS it was so slow and most times it would time out when I posted..same with a few other forums..it was the server, not my computer..many sites would not even come up..all I did was drop aol and everything works perfectly for over two months now... |

| You can get AOL for free if you have another way to access the internet. You can keep your screenname and email accounts for free. I just did this myself when I got DSL. If you want to change your AOL to free go to Your Account and then under change your password section you can change your account to the free one. They don't make it easy, they kinda hide it, or you can just call them (you have to hold forever, though). It will take effect in your next billing cycle and it doesn't take off any premium service you might have like AOL call alert. Hope this helps.

| Also, when I had AOL I never got the emails from YT anymore to threads I had subscribed to. Now, besides my AOL email, I have GMail and I get all the emails from YT again. Gmail is free too.

| They will charge you monthly if you are using their dial-up service to access the internet. If you sign in with the AOL program to access the internet, then you have to pay for it.

On another note, AOL will also charge you to use their browser if you already have high speed internet. If your service is around $15 a month, you are probably using this useless feature. You don't need AOL in that case; you can simply use Internet Explorer or Firefox as your browser. If this is your predicament, then you would be justified in canceling your AOL service, as they are not providing anything of value. You can retain your email, even when canceling AOL service.

| Thank you everyone - even though it wasn't my thread, you guided me to finally get the free aol email. That's all I needed; I had so much trouble with their 800 number, I had given up. Now it's done. Yeah for YT buddies. |
