| Anyone ever done the LPN to RN program? Well guys I have been kicking around in the back of my head about going back to school to get my RN. I now have myself talked in to it but wanted to know if there was anyone that had ever completed the LPN to RN program. In Indiana it is only a year and gives me credit for what I have already done. Will be a very hectic year and probably a pretty poor one as I don't think I will be working much but will be worth it in the end. I have always wanted to work in OB and around here they won't let an LPN work there. Husband is all for me going back and willing to make the sacrifice of not much money while I go. I have not said anything yet to the kids but know that they will all be supportive. Would love to hear from anyone who has done this. Was it worth it etc. I have been an LPN for over 19 years now so this is all pretty scary and at 43 hope that I am not too old to do this. |

| You are NEVER too old to go back to school!!! I haven't done the program - I got my RN from the beginning - but I wanted to encourage you to DO IT!!! Forgive me, but I've been out of town and just as I was leaving, I thought you were getting ready to go out as a traveling nurse??? Did I miss something?

| My daughter lives in Indiana and has been an LPN for several years. She is now taking courses to complete her RN and has been doing this at home in her own time (between her work and family). I can find out more about her program if you are interested. It seems to be working out well for her. |

| I've have not done the LPN to RN program. I did go AAS RN to BSN RN and the program was long and difficult (had a family at that point) -would I do it again YES. I commend you and support you. Here in NJ the positions for LPN in the hospital setting are few and far between. It is a wise descision and will be rewarding in the end. Good for you

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I can't comment but wanted to say good luck in your decision - that's pretty awesome to do this in your 40's - I do have a question to throw out to you nurses - are there any of you that have deal with severe lung illnesses ....and can you pm me so I can ask you some questions ? I'm having a really hard time lately watching how bad my husband is doing and would appreciate any help from a professional. His doctor flat out told him there was nothing more she could do for him & there's been some changes I'm concerned about |

| Thanks guys for all of the kind words and support. My whole family is behind me 100%. I am so excited and can not wait to start. I am afraid that I would not be good at the online thing and on the tough courses would do much better having a professor in front of me explaining things. I researched the classes that I am going to have to take and most of them seem pretty simple. there are a couple that I am sure will make me work extra hard but that is okay. My husband said if I was gonna do this then just go full time and get it done with instead of a class or two at a time. He is such a sweetie and so supportive of anything I want. Things in our life are finally where they need to be at least most of the time and stress is pretty low. So now just seems like the time to do this. |

| My daughter is 33 with 2 kids and is in her second semester of school to become an RN. One of her good friends that is going thru a lot of classes with her is an LPN going for her RN. Good for you I think that is great. |

You are right to try to do it without working. Your life will be much easier if you are not trying to work all the time. The more you can get organized to be able to focus completely on your studies, the better off you will be. You will "learn" many things that you already know - but just go with the flow. Be open to all possibilities. You will find yourself saying, "that is too idealistic, you can't really do it that way in reality". You are right - but the thing is that a nursing school must teach to the highest standard - which may not be able to be met in reality - but ethically, if nurses aren't taught to the "highest standards" then schools could be liable for teaching halfway. In health care, we can't always do things the most ideal way, but we can't do them halfway either, we do have to know how things "should" be done. I know you will do great - especially if you are ready to go back to school! I LOVE going to school - I think that is why I am a teacher. GOOD LUCK!

| Thanks again for the words of encouragement. I have emailed the school to see if there is anything that needs done before I get home in October. Also have been in contact with an old boss that had always wanted me to go back to school. To see about a part time job after I start. So things are working fine towards my goal so far. Glad to know that there is an nursing professor on here in case I have questions. Ha. |
