My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Oh Crap!!! I'm sooo scared !!!!!! I just set my appointment to have all 4 wisdom teeth out. I go August 24th. I'm scared!!!! I've never had an IV, I've never been put out, I've never broke anything...nothing!!!! I've always had white coat fever big time!!!! So I'm scared!!!!! I had said when I posted that Brodie was getting his teeth pulled , that if he has to, I had to too, so I made my appointment! Someone please tell me it will be ok , and the needle won't hurt!!!! Donating YT 500 Club Member | It will be OK. I had three of the four done simultaneously 20 years ago. I don't like needles either, but that wasn't a big issue for me. My biggest thing is that I do NOT like to be restrained. They were trying to strap me down while I was still awake and I about freaked! I asked them if they were going to knock me out and I just flat out told them to knock me out first! I had kind of a nasty reaction to the anesthesia. When I woke up, there were four of everything for a while and then I couldn't keep anything down that night. Had to get a script for Compazine. After that, just a little sore for a few days. |

| First, some humour: Wisdom Teeth One day, a man walks into a dentists office and asks how much it will cost to extract wisdom teeth. "Eighty dollars", says the dentist. "That's a ridiculous amount!", the man says. "Isn't there a cheaper way?" "Well...", the dentist says, "if you dont use an aesthetic, I can knock the price down to $60." Looking annoyed the man says, "That's still too expensive!" "Okay", says the dentist. "If I save on anaesthetics and simply rip the teeth out with a pair of pliers, I can knock the price down to $20". "Nope, moans the man, "it's still too much!". "Well", says the dentist, scratching his head, "if I let one of my students do it, I suppose I can knock the price down to $10." "Marvellous!", says the man, "Book my wife for next Tuesday."

I had mine done when I was 17 (so almost 14 years ago) back then it was nothing like it is today. I was down & out for a week solid. My friends who have had it done recently (a more normal age for wisdom teeth to grow in) have been back at work the next day. From what I understand its nothing now! I have MAJOR white coat syndrome myself. They usually have to take my BP twice during 1 visit bc its HIGH the first time, then normal by the end of the visit. Im the BIGGEST baby! I swear... and it was not that bad. Honestly I don't remember most of it. I don't remember the needle... nothing! (actually I dont even know if I had a needle) I DO remember trying to get out of the chair about 1/2 way through the surgery and they had to give me more gas! Its the only time in my life Ive been under anesthia (sp?) and it was not even fully under. YOu'll do GREAT! No fears! You probably won't even know its happening! I knew what was happening but could not have cared less.. it was like I was in LaLa Land. They painted the ceiling light blue with white clouds and in my mind I was flying in the sky... thats how cool the gas is! HAHA

| i had it done, same way, all 4 at one time. they had me restrained, but i did wake up during and try to swat at them, so it's good my hands were down. it's sort of like waking up at night and moving your hair out of your face. you have to do it, without realizing it. they gave me more gas... my problem was afterward. i wasnt' really hungry that day, but the next day i wanted a cheeseburger. i was so sore i couldn't get thru a junior whopper. and make sure you rinse out the "sockets" or you'll have some dragon breath majorly! my husband is a dento-phobe, but he did fine also. it was funny them bringing him out to me in a dang wheelchair. he was still messed up from the gas. you'll be fine and your mouth will thank you for it. |

| I HATE going to the dentist...I dont think there is anyone who can hate it more than me...such anxiety! BUT i did go and get my wisdom teeth pulled, 2 of them and i will be 100% honest with you. The needle stings just ALITTLE. after that you feel NOTHING. I was not knocked out just numb. when it was done I laughed at myself for worrying so much for that! you will be FINE ofcourse after you are alittle sore but nothing major... now a root canal....thats a different story LOL |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Sorry ... I didn't think it WAS that bad. I always heard such horrible stories about it. I've had other things done that were supposed to be simple and were 10x worse than the wisdom teeth. Try this: It will not be nearly as bad as you think it's going to be! Really. |

| I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 16. We will not talk about how LONG ago that was. I was to be put under, and was given a pill to take before I got there (of course, someone had to drive me) to loosen me up a bit. I've gotta say, unlike you I have been put under LOTS. This was the least difficult experience of all. I was happy enough from whatever that pill was...and the rest is a complete blur. Actually, I don't remember much at all...just being at home afterwards. I agree with Nicole about the "restraining" thing. I remember something similar happening with a recent surgery, it does freak you out. But...anesthesia works quickly and it's all over before you know it. One more note (feeling talkative today). DH just had his first surgery EVER. He was a little disappointed afterward, because he was expecting the whole "counting backwards"...and some peaceful drifting off to sleep. He said the same thing...one minute the anesthesiologist (sp) was leaning over me, the next minute I was waking up in recovery... Don't sweat it. YOU WILL BE FINE.

| It wasn't bad. I had all 4 removed 9 years ago. I also had IV sedation and I HATE needles. I usually pass out whenever I get needles but I don't even remember getting that one. All of my wisdom teeth were impacted so they had to remove them in sections--I was in a bit more pain following the surgery but I was given meds to help with that. I also had little chipmunk cheeks for a few days but overall it wasn't a bad experience. Getting my tonsils removed was so much worse. Some people don't have any problems afterward, though. A friend of mine met a group of us at a bar later in the evening following her surgery

| Don't be scared. My 17 year old just had her's done, and she came out sleeping while singing a song on the top of her lungs. She's had a lot of ice cream, warm mash potatoes, and now I'm making her ravioli. Think of all the pampering you'll get afterwards.
