| Cow Ants? Does anyone know anything about cow ants? I think that's what they're called. They're really big and mostly red with a little bit of black. They creep me out and I've seen several lately. I don't know if they bite but I definitely wouldn't want to find out because it looks like it would hurt

| here in Texas you just assume the ants will bite. my favorite are the flying ones. it's so lovely how they can get to places that you shouldn't be touching in public! i think that the smaller black (sugar) ants don't mess with people, but they can still mess up your home. |

| Are these the huge hairy looking ants that are hard to kill by squashing them? I don't know what they are called...I haven't seen those in a long time....but we have gotten so much rain. We have huge carpenter ants....they are big black ants. We keep the house sprayed, so we haven't seen any of those in awhile.

| They are actually members of the wasp family. Look them up as "velvet ants" or "cattle killer." They hurt like crap. Hey, you asked if anyone knew anything and that's what I know. |

Yep, that's the ones. You aren't kidding. You can step on them and they crunch...I swear, they have bones. Then they get up and chase you. I even ran over one with a car once and the sucker resurected itself and kept going. | |

Thank you guys! I have one more question. I'm fairly new to living in the deep country and I swear I've seen so many bugs I've never seen before. I jokingly call them prehistoric bugs. Has anyone ever seen something that looks like an ant except it's John Deere green, almost a metallic green and has wings? I hate bugs with a passion and I have a tendency to stay away from them if I can't identify them.
