| Ok I think you and I were in the same boat. First of all no amount of pain killers, heating pads or teas worked. Here's what worked for me. After switching different birth control pills, I found Loestrin which helped a ton. Also my doctor suggested that I take potassium and iron pills, because you lose a lot of that while you're on your period. THAT TOTALLY HELPED!! I also have learned that maybe a few days before your period, keeping your lower abdomen warm helps. Ok this is going to sound super weird but it's true. Around the area where your ovaries are, is very sensitive. If you don't keep it warm before your period, (i know this will sound strange but stay with me) your ovaries get like a cold. Kind of like getting chest cold or head cold. Your ovaries, if exposed to colder weather, (wearing ultra low rise and low shirts right before your period) will be cold therefore cause you a lot of pain and no amount of warming up will help. I know it sounds funny but it's been worknig for me. I'm not even on BC pills anymore. I just keep that area warm a few days before and I still have discomfort but I'm not throwing up or crying from pain. P.S. DON'T SKIP A PERIOD OR ANY OF YOUR PILLS. I CHECKED WITH 3 DOCTORS AND THEY ALL SAID YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE CONCEIVING CHILDREN IF YOU CONTINUOUSLY SKIP PERIODS BY NOT TAKING THE PLACEBO PILLS. They help cut the hormones out of your body quicker so your period can run it's course before you're back on the regular BC cycle.

| well i talked to my doctor about skipping pills and she said it was fine.. as long as i didn't do it all the time. i'd say i do it about twice a year... if we are going away.. and my period won't come at the right time.. it's more for conveineice, but i can see that some people have a strong opinion against it... you better talk to YOUR doctor. They make pills now where you only get your period 4 times a year, so clearly it can't be that bad for you. As far as changing brands... i did that a year ago.. i found it hard on my body and i bled a lot for the first month, however, if you can get past that... everything improved for me, but i think the pill is a lot of trial and error until you find the one perfect for you. |

| OH, I feel your pain! When I was younger, I used to get TERRIBLE cramps - like crippling cramps that would get me sent home from school. My mom was the same way when she was young. The ONLY thing that worked for me was advil and a nap! I'd usually wake up feeling better - not great, but better. Finally I went on the pill and let me tell you, what a lifesaver! Not only is my period lighter and shorter, I get NO cramps now. YAY!

| I use to get cramps really bad, they were very painful and would last for days. I tried Pamprin and Midol, Pamprin seems to be the better for me,and I tried other pain meds as well. They worked at first but then they didn't help at all. The heating pad did help alot and I had it set on high. I talked to my doctor and he suggested birth control pills. After trying several brands I finally found one that worked really well for me. Now I don't have any cramps. Of course the birth control I have to have will not be as effective in preventing pregnancy, one of the hormones is lower. But I am not on it for preventing pregnancy, I am on it for my cramps so that part doesn't matter to me. I would try out different brands as they all have different amounts of hormones added. Like I said I had to go through several different ones before I found one that worked for me.

| You really need to talk with your doctor. I had terrible cramps most of my adult life and the doctor put me on mild muscle relaxers for it. Your uterus after all is one big muscle. Also, there could be an underlying reason your cramps are so bad that the doctor could treat. Good Luck and God Bless, Teri

BUT the way it works when you skip periods is that you go for 2 full months without taking the last row of your pill pack. On the 3rd month you take the last row and because your body has a break from the hormone pills you have a synthetic period. You can do it for different lengths of time, but essentially that's how it works.

| Just wanted to throw out a suggestion for the NuvaRing. It is good for controlling breakthrough bleeding. It goes inside and you can barely feel it. It releases a very small dose of hormones continuously. It's also easy to skip a period, but ask your doctor about that. To everyone: IF you are in more pain than you think should be normal (like, you can't function) please find out why. It's NOT normal. I just had surgery after being told to "take an advil" by doctors for years and I really did have some problems.

| Donating YT 11K Club Member | I really wanna try yasmin or nuvaring but I am scared of side effects. I was on the patch and didn't have ANY side effects but then when I stopped using them I heard about all these side effects and ppl dying from it and commercials on tv about how bad they are, etc. so now i am scared about other bc other than the pill. I was also on the pill once but I am not good with taking pills, I am so inconsistent and forget to take them everyday, soooo I was wondering about the nuvaring and yasmin, how do they work? |

NuvaRing goes inside and you leave it there for 3 weeks. Then you take it out for a week and put another one in. Or you can leave it in for 4 weeks and put another one in, but again ask your dr.

| I am another to say have it checked out. When I was younger I use to get cramps so bad I would pass out from the pain. My Dr. then would just prescribe Darvan (sp). It turned out I had Endometriosis really bad and it also caused me to not be able to concieve. So please, if you are wanting a family someday...have it checked out.

| Im in the same boat you are in. Every month at that time I just want to die! I cramp so bad I puke and and cry and cry! I usually stay in bed all day. The thermacare heating pads that stick onto your stomach seem to help me a little bit. But I would do anything in the world not to have the cramps like I do! I hope you find something that works for you!

| ugh! I so feel for you I use those sticky heating pads that are made for lower backs, they work great and you can wear them all day. I also do accupuncture for cramps and it helps tremendously. Before that my dr has me on Vicodin and Percocet b/c they were so bad. Now I hardly take anything for them anymore. |
