| well i havent but i think the only problems with adopting older dogs is that you only own the dog for a couple of years but if you okay with that i think its great for your situation cause an older dog wont be as hyper and would be calm.

| I rescued a dog who was what the vet guessed to be 10-12 years old. I won't go in to the gory details, but I didn't even know what kind of dog it was. Turns out it was a Yorkshire Terrier and that began my love affair with the breed. Chester was the most amazing dog ever. He lived to be 17 and those were the most wonderful five years of my life with a pet. I also rescued a 15 year old former puppymill breeding dog. She was a little neurotic, and it took some time, but she was also a sweetheart. I had her until she was 18. Her little lips looked just like a Rosebud, so that's what I named her. The older ones may have to overcome some habits that you may not be too happy with, but it sure is worth it. It's a wonderful feeling to spoil them rotten the last few years of their life. They know when they're truly loved and cared for. I love the older ones and make it very well known that I will take them in a heartbeat. Good luck in making your decision. |

| When my neighbor got sick, I took his 16 year old dog in. I wasn't really wanting a pet at the time, and kinda got suckered into this. I told him I'd take care of the dog, cause I knew this man needed to go to the hospital, and wouldn't go because of his dog. After he got in the hospital, he told me he was going to get someone to come have him put down! I said "no way" I want George! Every time I'd talk to my nieghbor when his dog was on the porch (many years), dog would never fail to bark sooo loud, I couldn't hear what his master was saying, lol. But I loved the dog, seems from day 1, it was so strange. When I went over to get George, he never barked at me, and let me put his leash on him, and take him over here! I built him a house, and he sat there and watched me. Oh was that an ugly dog house! When I was through, he got right in it! LOL, gotta love a dog like that. Wasn't long, he was unable to come up the 6" step to the house, so I built him a ramp. Ok, my relatives will never let me hear the end of that one, but hey, George came in and out for a good while, with no problem, using that ramp. He continued to get worse as time went on, and got to the point where he'd go on himself. It like to have killed me to have him put down, but I knew his days were gone now, as he was about 18, blind, deaf, and couldn't get up anymore. I had to get my sis to meet me there, and drive me away. So yea, I've taken an older dog, and in the meantime, I got my yorkie, Adonis. Adonis helped me through loosing George! George was by far the dog of my dreams, probably just opposite. But I think in taking him in, it helped me make that decision to get my dream dog, Adonis. He also brought a lot of joy to my life. I'd walk him, and everyone in the neighborhood would ask if that was the same dog my neighbor had! Yea, was the same dog, good Dog food diet, lost weight, and he was walking lots better his last few years. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I adopted Jack when he was 10, and I wouldn't trade a single day. He doesn't like to wrestle around with my 2-year-old, but they are still buds. I think he taught both Eddie and me that you don't have to be a holy terror to be fun. He needed a $1,000+ surgery when I got him, and I told myself if he lived a year it would be like paying $3 a day. He's been worth much more than that, and every day is a blessing.

| I'm so glad to read the other posts about people who have adopted senior yorkies. Chester was my soulmate, cost me over $2500.00 in vet bills in two years and was worth ten times that much. I have a younger yorkie now and a new litter of pups from which I plan to keep one. I love them all, but I can't imagine any dog ever touching my life like Chester did. My son always told me I loved that dog more than I did him! If you have an opportunity to share your live with one of these babies, try to take it, it will change your life. |
