but I've helped in a shelter near here and 90% of our adult cats here are put down. cause not many want an adult cat. but kittens fly oout the door. but come 6 months to 2 years later here comes kitty. it sucks.

I too know all to well about the plight of cats in the shelter. Declawing one is better than sending it to the shelter.

I'm currently working to save four purebred unpapered Irish setter puppies from being sent to the shelter cause their "breeder" couldn't sell them or give them away. cause thier get this no longer cute or puppy enough for the locals as they're now 6 months old. Trying like cause I got til Monday to get a hold of Irish setter rescue and pray and I mean pray they've got room or atleast will ocme to get them if I foster.

grrr grrr not my good day to post. by the way our shelter here only holds owner turn ins TWO days before they're put down. cats if they're lucky and we've begged the ACO maybe get those two days.

I've heard all kinds of excuses. and it's too darn soon after Lily.

I have worked at a shelter before. I was a kennel supervisor and in charge of Euthanisa. I asked the vet at the shelter once about the cruelty of declawing and she said "I would rather see one declawed than end up here". I am against declawing for no good reason,but I agree that it is better than seeing it end up at the shelter. I admit I am not a cat person. They are your responsiblity and it is your decison. I hope you can find them a good home if that is what you choose to do. I think it is unrealistic that you will find them a home together. I do know that you can declaw cats over a year old. I watched our vet declaw a cat that was 5. If you take them to the shelter there is a good chance that they will not get a home together if at all.

I have had all my indoor cats declawed. And at different ages. I have never had a problem and they have healed quickly(the last 2 done by laser). I might mention, 1 was about a year old and weighed 15 - 20 lbs when declawed and 1 was over 2 y.o. and weighed about 20 lbs when declawed. 2 were done at 6 mos. with 1 ending up weighing just under 30 lbs. and the other is a normal sized cat.

We had 2 cats (1 was terrified of big dogs) when we got Roxy. They were curious but by no means thrilled. They hissed and swatted and growled but noone got hurt. They have adjusted well and Roxy even rounds them up when it's time to come in for the nite. I know alot of it is show, because when they don't know I am watching, I have caught them giving each other baths. I have even seen them sleeping together. If you have unneutered males, they are probably protecting their territory. Give them time and you can always use a squirt gun or bottle of water on the cats - they hate that. Good luck!

I don't know what to do, I not a cat person. But I have grown attracted to them, and I love my yorkie & once my Mom gets hers I quite sure I will love him too. I don't want them to be put down just the thought of it makes me tear up, and I don't want them to go some where they aren't going to be happy. I really am confused. I just wish they would be able to get along with Gia.

My Mom hates the cats because they shed so much, and they irritate her allergies, but she has put up with having them just because she knows I love animals. But she's ready for them to go now.

We live in apt it's a nice size but there's no upstairs & downstairs or backyard for them to go. Hopefully I'll be able to find something that will work out for all three of us (Mom, animals & I)

Allergies is a good reason for you to find the cats a new home. There is no reason that someone should suffer because of a pet. Allergies are really serious and your mom could get sinus infections and etc from the cats being there. Please don't take them to a shelter. I will be praying that something/someone comes along and this all works out for the best.

P.S. I don't think you are a terriable person for trying to find these cats a new home. Please don't take my posts as such.

Allergy shots and benedryl don't always work for allergies suffered from cats. I know I am allergic to cats too and did everything to. I finally had to give my cats away when the doctor diagnosed my son with asthma. Even on his medication the cats were too much for him.
Thank you for being a caring person and trying to rescue those dogs. I rescued one of my cockers and the yorkie that I'm trying to find a home for is also a rescue from the streets. (She was almost hit by 2 simi's so I picked her up.) It is honorable of you to save those dogs. Sorry about your Lilly.

Sorry this turned into something it shouldn't have. If I were you, I'd go talk to all of the area vets and leave pictures with them and see if they can help you find a home within the next week.

I don't mean to throw stones either but that is why all of our pets need to be spayed/neutered. There are just too many situations like this because people undertake a pet like it is a hobby that can be put aside when one loses interest rather than a living being.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these problems. We also had a cat first but we were lucky because when we got our Yorkie the two got on really well from day one.

I would also advise against declawing because cats need their claws to jump, climb etc, so it is cruel. I think the best thing would be to find them a good home with someone you know and trust. I know that's easier said than done but just ask all your friends and family members, someone might be happy to give them a new home. Good luck!!!!

I have to add that I let my declawed cat go outside and a stray cat came into our yard and attacked her and she ended up losing the sight of one eye. I really hate to confess to that because it broke my heart and every time I saw her I just wanted to cry. I just felt like she had loved & trusted me and I had caused her so much pain with the declawing and eye injury. I hope that I have matured since that time and will be a better pet owner but the guilt and pain I feel is still there years after my cat is dead.

It was a long time before I could bring myself to purchase Little Bit. I was really quite traumatized at my inhumanity and still want to cry telling you about it. Just don't do anything you can't live with for your own peace of mind.

I know this may sound silly but I have seen people do this with kittens. You can stand out in front of your local grocery store and put up a sign that you are looking for a good home for ur cats. This way you can meet the people and find the person you think is suited to take ur cats home with them. Just a thought. GoodLuck with this and please keep us updated with what you do. Thanks!
