I am not replying to the cats having to be rehomed because of son's asthma. Obviously, we protect our children's health at all costs.
But I had a cat declawed once & I swore I would never do it again. They literally cut the ends of cat's paws off. She was the saddest thing. She was in terrible pain and scared for a long time afterwards. I feel like it is inhumane. I felt like a terrible human being. I just didn't want my furniture torn up. On a lighter note, I think she got even with me because she began to urinate on my leather sofa after that.
Still, I hate to see them have to go because I think it will be difficult to get someone to give them a loving forever home as adults when there are already way too many cute little kittens needing homes. Is it possible that the roommate might could take them? Apparently she/he at one time had feelings for them.
I don't mean to throw stones either but that is why all of our pets need to be spayed/neutered. There are just too many situations like this because people undertake a pet like it is a hobby that can be put aside when one loses interest rather than a living being.
Sorry for the situation you are in.
