I have worked at a shelter before. I was a kennel supervisor and in charge of Euthanisa. I asked the vet at the shelter once about the cruelty of declawing and she said "I would rather see one declawed than end up here". I am against declawing for no good reason, but I agree that it is better than seeing it end up at the shelter. I admit I am not a cat person. They are your responsiblity and it is your decison. I hope you can find them a good home if that is what you choose to do. I think it is unrealistic that you will find them a home together. I do know that you can declaw cats over a year old. I watched our vet declaw a cat that was 5. If you take them to the shelter there is a good chance that they will not get a home together if at all.
Good Luck,
