MP3 Questions

I get some stuff form itunes for 99cents a song. I uploaded my cds which took forever, I have bunches. But I think its wise to pay a one time fee to one of those sites I think limewire just started one since them and kazaa both got in trouble lik napster. It would be nice to get free music but it's very scary if RIAA finds you've been sharing from what I've read about ther lawsuits they have against people including kids. I think people do it since they dont want to pay $15 for a cd with only 2 songs on it that they like.

My sister uses www.Rhapsody.com and loves it. I haven't used it yet but am thinking about it. She said that you can pay a fee monthly and get certain things out of it. Like I think she pays either 15 or 19 dollars a month and can download all the songs she wants and put them on to a mp3 player but can't burn them to a disc. You then have to buy the song for .89 cents if you actually want to put them on a disc.

Like I said I haven't done this yet so you may want to read what they have to say first or others may know more about it.

I'd like to know if anyone uses them and has and ipod or nano or whatnot. Can you put the mp3 file that you get into itunes, she told me that I could listen to it on my windows media player so I'm thinking I could? If I'm thinking correctly apples players use like mp4's or something so the mp3's would need to be converted. Anyone?

I got my DH an Ipod for Christmas last year. He loaded all of his favorite songs some from CD's and some from downloads. He has 1500 songs. We hooked it in to his radio in the garage. Now he can work out there for an entire weekend, never get a commercial or repeat song. He loves it!!

Whenever there's a song I want, but don't want to purchase the whole CD, I just download it from iTunes. You can buy cards for them from Walmart/Walgreens/etc for specific dollar amounts (we usually get $20) and then you enter the card code in and then when you download a song it automatically deducts the purchase from the card. You don't have to enter credit cards or worry about monthly fees.... Songs are usually $.99 on there.

I'll never touch anything like Limewire or Kazaa or whatever they're using now... That's how all those people got pulled into the copyright lawsuits. Plus there's too much of a risk of adware/spyware, etc. IMO, saving a few bucks on music isn't worth the risk.

iPods are compatible with a few different formats.... I usually put all my songs in AAC because I think the file size is smaller. (Smaller file size = more songs on my iPod).

AAC isn't compatible with all players though. Some can only handle a specific file type (AAC, MP3, AVI, WAV, whatever it is). If that's the case you'll have to be sure all files are converted the appropriate format... iTunes (as well as various other programs) can convert an AAC into an MP3 (and vice versa). You may lose a little bit of the sound quality in the process, but it's never enough that I notice it.

I use limewire also and have been lucky enough not to have anything bad happen. My brother (who knows lots about computers) says you can minimize the risks of getting cited for copyright infringement if you remove your downloaded songs from your Shared File. Whenever you download something off of one of these file sharing sites your downloaded files are automatically stored in a Shared Files folder. The contents of this folder are then accessable to any other members of that site. Those are the files that they are able to download off of you. If you remove the songs you've downloaded from this folder and put them in a personal folder on your computer, they can no longer be copied off of you and you technically would not be guilty of sharing copyrighted material. I don't know if this is entirely true but it has worked for me so far. But then again, I really don't download that often so I am not sure.
