MP3 Questions Hi everyone! I am having a hard time finding a place to download some music to my daughters MP3 player. Every place I look with "FREE" downloads, seems to ask for all your information. Some ask for credit card numbers, so when your free trail expires, you have the option to continue service, but with pay. Does anyone have any good places/websites/helpful information? Thanks! |
I was afraid of those "free" sites. I just recorded my son's favorite songs from his CD's into the computer and then onto the MP3 player. |
www.download.com Search for limewire and download an older version of it. The newer version you will have to pay. But do this at your own risk, because when you don't pay for it those piracy laws come into effect. If you don't want to break any laws, I believe for limewire it is a one time fee. |

It is so confusing! Thanks for all your advice! :luvu: |
I use limewire. i think i may have had to pay a one time fee, but it was very little like under 20 and ohh so worth it. works great and heck ive made hundreds of cds for the price of one!! |
Try using iMesh. You can DL it at www.imesh.com |
the only one i know about is limewire.... but be careful of that internet providers are starting to track the usage and can suspend your acct for using it (i guess its illegal) stay away from anything that makes you download other things sometimes they use spam to pay for thier operation (this pertains to the free ones only) Kazaa used to be a big one for it i used to use WINMX but they got shut down right now i am all about itunes (i have an ipod) but its .99 a song you can get gift cards for itunes tho same w/napster and alot of companies will give you 50 or 100 free songs when u first sign up and dont forget u can upload ur personal cd collection too :) hope this helps! |
Be careful downloading music programs. Any free program is "ad supported" meaning you will be bombarded with spam and pop ups and viruses. Limewire, Grokster. Shar-eza, and any other free program are known to crash computers, I've lost two that way. Most of them offer a non ad supported program which has about a $20 one time fee to instal the program but then you have access to unlimited music, video'es etc, without running the risk of catching a virus. |
The above is info from Krysten who is the IPOD queen. Yes, she did lose 2 computers, my older daughter lost 2 and my brother (who is a puter whiz) lost 1 or 2 - all from free music programs. Nasty viruses floating around in them. We have 2 MP3's and a purchased music site. No problems and it has been at least 1 1/2 yrs since we got the program. It's worth the $ to get it. |

W/ limewire itself I never had problems. But you have to be careful of who you download from because that is how you can get problems. As for pop-ups, I've never gotten them from limewire. |
If you use Lime Wire, you will need to be careful of your settings. Since, it is based on sharing music, other people cn download music from your computer using your bandwidth (of course there are other legal issues too). You can change the settings to limit how many people can access your downloads. Limiting them can cause you to be limited by Limewire. Be sure to always turn Lime Wire off when your done using it. Otherwise, you are always allowing others to use your computer to download. |
Wow! Thanks everyone for all the information! I haven't checked all of these out yet, but I plan on doing that today (we are getting ready to go on a long weekend, so my daughter is desperate to have her songs). |

Is there a way we can tell who we're dling them and if they're legit? That'd make it a lot easier for me to avoid a virus. |
Just an FYI, Limewire, Kazaa, emule, edonkey, imesh, etc, etc are all called "file sharing" because you "share" programs on your computer with other people and they "share" programs on their computer. This sharing allows a user to transfer files to and from other computers. The issue is that it is illegal (according to copywrite laws and what have you) to download music, games, programs from others since you did not purchase it yourself. The RIAA (music) and MPAA (movies) associates have been filing lawsuits left and right against EVERYONE............ A "legitimate" (legal) service to download music (www.iTunes.com, www.mp3.com, etc) typically charges $1 or so per song. So if you aren't using a service that charges, PLEASE be careful. Check this website out for indepth information about filesharing including what it is and how to do it - http://www.slyck.com/ |
