| ![]() I'm sorry... but where is there a legislature that BANS THE BREED??? "banning the breed" to me means, you are not allowed to own a dog of that breed. like in sf, sugar gliders and ferrets are banned as pets (for what reason i don't know, but they are). but has there actually been a law that actually bans the ownership of pit bulls as pets? every law so called law that i read that supposedly "bans pit bulls", is actually an enforced and required "spaying and neutering" law. which requires the spaying and neutering of you pet dog of that breed UNLESS you have a permit for breeding. so there's still exceptions to the law, which leaves the breeding of a breed to responsible breeders who are authorized to do so. if anything i think that reduces the cases of byb for the breed because the fine for not complying with the law is pretty stiff. i think it's very sad that a great number of irresponsible pit owners are not having their dogs proper trained and properly fixed. i think it's very sad that accidental litters and puppies from these irresponsible owners wind up in homes of other irresponsible owners or in shelters. i think it's sad that these puppies and dogs are being enuthanized because no one wants to adopt them for fear of their temperament or because the shelter just can afford to keep so many of them. i think if a law would do at least a little to deter or prevent such sad things from happening then it's a good thing. JMHO. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() I had Maya at the vets today and there was a petition for something regarding the Dangerous breed legislation at the desk where you pay. I had Cali in her crate and Maya in my arms so I couldn't even read it. I wasn't sure what side they were on. I think they did not want the legislation.

local interpretation of the law and the financial status of the shelter all have major effects on what happens to dogs that are brought into the shelter. i hesitate to say the euthanization of the dogs are because of how the legislation was written. i'm curious to see how it's written.

| ![]() okay, so i checked it out on miami-dade county animal control website: 5-17 Pit Bull Law It is illegal in Miami-Dade County to own any dog which substantially conforms to a pit bull breed dog, unless it was specially registered with Miami-Dade County prior to 1989. Acquisition or keeping of a pit bull dog: $500.00 fine and County Court action to force the removal of the animal from Miami-Dade County. ONLY an Animal Services Investigator trained in pit bull identification will determine if the dog conforms to pit bull breed standards. from: http://www.miamidade.gov/animals/regulations.asp so i guess that country does ban pit bulls. now that is really sad, to single out a breed for banning. if only previous owner would have been more responsible, the dogs wouldn't have to bear the punishment that way. ![]() |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | ![]() thats pretty sad! I was really shocked that they did not put the dobbie down that attacked me, but they said they were not putting a good dog down that just nips someone! So they adopted him out again! I had no say so in the matter and it was my dog. |

| ![]() Ya know...I dont necessarily think they should be banned, but I will say I am a little afraid of them. I also know that there are ALOT in our town and they are becoming more and more popular here for some reason. Mostly we see teenagers with them and my theory is they think they make them look tough walking down the street. I would even say they are becoming SO popular here that there is probably at least one pit bull to every 3 blocks. For this reason and teenagers walking them, I will not, and am very afraid to walk my dogs even around my block. So I am trying to litter box train them. And this is not against pit bulls only, per say, I would feel the same way if there were a bunch of big chows or labs or whatever living so close. So many of them just make me nervous.

| ![]() Missy ~ those pictures of yours does't look like "just a nip" to me!!! it's ridiculous to me that they decided to adopt out a dog that can inflict that kind of damage with "just a nip". suppose it decides to "nip" a child? Cindy ~ i know what you mean. i'm a bit fearful of medium to large size dogs too. i'm even more defensive when the person "in control" of the dog doesn't seem like they're capable of controling the dog if the dog went out of control. i personally think there's a lot of pit bulls around because they are cheap. i know there's a lot of byb's on places like craigslist who irresponsibly do not have their fixed and they have "accidently bred" and are eager to give their puppies away for cheap or will abandon them to shelters. parents can get them 'cause their cheap and their kids are whining for a cute puppy, but of course, after the novelty wears off, away goes the dog. it's just really sad. |

| ![]() My sister owns a pitbull.....she's the sweetest dog in the world. Bubbles is always smiling, playing with my chihuahua who is in love with her, and now trying to play with Adrianna. I could not imagine someone telling my family that we had to put Bubbles down because of a LAW. I feel like crying right now, because it is so horrible to imagine someone coming to my house and dragging Bubbles out. My heart goes out to the families who have been victims of brutal animal attacks. I do respect the opinion of others who feel that the only way they can get over an attack is the "eye for an eye" method. I don't agree at all with it, but I do understand it. But please.....do not blame the breed. Do not pass a law that will kill a member of my family.

And i don't necessarily think victims of brutal animal attacks are trying to get "an eye for an eye". I mean, if you bought a baby stroller and it collapsed for a reason you can't explain and your baby was seriously hurt from the drop, would you continue to recommend the stroller? when you walk through the stroller section, wouldn't you recommend against it? wouldn't you want it taken off the market? it's not because of an eye for an eye, but it's because you don't want another parent to go through the heartache of having a child hurt by this stroller 'cause you know first hand that it sux.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | ![]() I got very lucky when he did bite me, he could have eaisly went for my throat, and I don't really know why he didn't, and keep in mind this was are own dog, we had him for about 7 months, and the sad thing was, he did this right in front of my 2 younger kids. I'm just lucky it was me and not one of my girls cause then I would have killed him with my bare hands (or a frying pan) The animal control came and took him away and took him to the animal shelter to be held for 5 days, after the 4th day they called me and said he is such a sweetheart, we have him up at the front desk with us and we just love him! They wanted to know if we wanted him back (if we took him back we would of had to show proof of a special insurance we had to have and we would of had to have a fenced in yard) I was like, no way I don't want him back, and that is when she said they were not putting a good dog down that just nips someone, I about came unglued, but she did not show any signs of sympothy towards me, when I told my doctor who sewed me up what they said, he about jumped through the roof. And to top off the cake, I lost my job after it because I missed 7 days, even though I was on doctors care! So nothing is ever fair in life. And that is why I have Kloey! She saved me! |

| ![]() Its not the dogs fault - they should do something about the irresponsible and nasty owners who exploit their dogs. |
