This is such an interesting post that here I am AGAIN posting. To share more feelings on this subject - my first response was to say ADOPTION should always be at the top of one's mind who cannot conceive. I'm adopted myself and feel very lucky to have been. but that wasn't the question.

I was thinking of what I would do if I were Kristies age and offered this opportunity....and anyone who says money wouldn't be a motivator must never have been broke lol - I had 2 kids young and back then - (and even now) 10 GRAND is alot of money. That would be a huge motivator.

YES...you'd be doing someone a good deed.....

but would anyone really do this if it was for ZERO Payment ?

I would do it for free for a sibling or my closest girlfriend for free. I wouldn't do it for a million dollars for a stranger. That's MY kid out there. Btw, the payment is per procedure, not per egg. They usually get 4-5 eggs per time, sometimes more, but again it is very time intensive and painful, plus the hormones are killer.....imagine PMS overload for a month...there ya go.

PS I am a blue eyed blonde...I could've gotten big bucks back in the day

Personally..I dont think that genetics make parents. I wont look as that child as MINE because to me.. that doesnt make me a mother. I wont be raising them nor will I have any part in their lives. Same thing with adoption..But that is just me personally. It affects everybody differently

Its 5-6K in Atlanta depending on which of the 3 clinics you go through. I havent heard of them discriminating between hair and eye color, but when I filled out all of my paper work, they did ask about it all ad I was also asked to send in 3 pictures.

My youngest is adopted. So it may not bother you but what about the child have you thought about that? YOu act like it's no big deal..It's a very big deal. I'm sorry you feel so little about the child's feelings.

What bothers me about all the sperm and egg and embryo donations is: these sibling might grow up and get married and have children, not even knowing they are marrying their sibling. I saw a thing on Tv a few weeks ago where several young women all found out that they were all pregnant with the same doners sperm. He was a very popular doner and many women chose him. Think of all the off spring that will be related and not even know it. They're going to have to start requiring DNA testing on pregnant parents.

So I believe in doing it, but I think you should know where it is going.

i think what she ment was that if she where to donate an egg to some that she would not be the one carrying that baby , nor taking care of it so that would techinically make it not her child.

I am not trying to be rude here , but I care about the feeling sof kids to I have 3 and my firs i was 15 when i got pregnet for him and I didnt think about me i kept him and raised him he is perfect to me in every way . and she did not specifically say that she dint care about the feelings of children i like you Christy and i understand where you are comming from I was just saying that she might not have ment that.

I have not donated eggs, but I did go through the invitro to be a surrogate mother. The embryo's of the biological parents were implanted inside me twice, 4 each time, and it did not take, I never became pregnant, and they ran out of frozen embryo's. The wife was 43, and was too old to retrieve more eggs from(the older the less the chance) so they gave up.

I never said that I didn't care about that child's feelings. I simply said that I would not consider myself as a parent because I had no part in the raising of the child. Yes..the baby would have my genes..but the environment the child is raised in the morals and vaules they are taught come from the family they are raised by..not by genes..but like I said..that's just me personally..Maybe I was wrong to put adoption in to the mix because I truely feel as though it is something to be considered in it own. When it comes to adoption, you have a life and not just unfertilized eggs. It was not my intention to offend those who are adopted, have adopted, or been involved in the process. I can only imagine everything you have gone through and I commend you for..not that you need it from me or anyone else.
