What are your thoughts on egg donation? Has anyone ever experienced it? Or do you know anyone that has? I know this is totally out of left field..but I am considering it..so of course I come to YT to get input :D

They pay big bucks for that.....Back in the day when I was young AND single....I would probably consider it ....

these days it's so hard to make ends meet and if you don't do it - someone else will.

Sorry if this offends anyone...but these days - money IS KING....and the lack of it can cause people to make decisions they would normally not make....not to mention ...make day to day living very depressing.

I am very lucky to have had children without much difficulty, my sister in law on the other hand cant have children naturally and she has decided not to try any procedure.but... if it hadnt of happened naturally for me i would have tried anything, donated eggs included.

I live by the Jones Institute in Norfolk, VA. Yes, they pay very well for egg donation, but it's certainly not a one time easy money making deal. I'm not sure what they pay now but at one time it was $2,500.00 per harvest. Before they accept you into the program there is a very detailed physical examination plus detailed family history you have to provide. They also make you have psychological testing prior to accepting you. Now if you are accepted into the program what you have to do is the same thing women undergoing in vitro have to do. There is a series of hormone shots. Sometimes they will "teach" your spouse or another to give the injection if you can't go to their office....cause these are not a one time shot...some are daily, some weekly.There are office visits. There is monitoring to determine when you will ovulate. You don't get to "decide" when it's convenient for you, that's up to your body. The hormones are to increase the number of eggs. The removal procedure is done in the facility by laposcopy for them to see. They insert a long needle like thing in your side. If you look at the Jones Institute website you may find far more information than I can provide. Btw, I didn't see your age, but that's also a factor of whether or not they will accept you. It's limited to women in their 20's. Granted all this provided at no cost to you but it is very time consuming.

I do have a friend who did this. I would not consider it. That would be MY child out there somewhere and I am someone who had a problem conceiving so I understand the desire to have children. I would've considered doing it for a family member but no one else. I do not fault anyone who's donated eggs because they've certainly made someone else very, very happy.

I have done Invito fertilizatiion. My tubes are tied and my husband (I'm remarried) didn't have any children and since my tubes had been tied for years we decided to do and IVF. We used my eggs and his sperm though. I can honestly tell you this it was the hardest thing I ever went through getting my ovaries to overproduce eggs. The hormonal that you go through is awful. You are crying one moment and mad the next. I have never felt like I was on such a emotional rollercoaster as I did doing this. I think it's a wonderful thing that women donate eggs and men donate sperm but I think it's a sad day when someone does this for money. This sort of thing should be done because your heart is in it not to make a buck. It ticks me off to think that someone would sell their egg so someone could have their child. I am sure I've made you mad and i'm sorry but this is how I feel about it. To me it's no different than offering your child to the blackmarket. When people give a child up for adoption (which I have adopted) they don't ask for money in return for their child. I could see having the dr expenses paid for but not extra money. I think this is morally wrong.

They pay men for those spermies here too. A lot of the male medical students at EVMS here do it for the money. Obviously it's a lot more detailed for women donating eggs. I think the demand outweighs the supply thus the need for an incentive. I don't think it's morally wrong to get paid, but I can tell you that if money is your sole motivation the Jones Institute won't accept that reason. It's far too complicated for that.

When I first seriously considered it, I honestly thought..wow..what an amazing thing to be able to do for someone. I can't imagine NOT having kids when I get older..and the thought of not being able to scares me more than anything. I have babysat all the kids in my old neighborhood since I was like..13 and that motherly instinct has always been a part of me. So having my own kids would be one of my greatest accomplishments..to me anyhow. Of course, not everyone is able to do that naturally, and I would love to be one of those people that helps bring that to someone else. I knew there was some monetary benefit because men also get paid for donating sperm. But I never imagined that it would be as much as I have found it to be in Atlanta.

I think that egg donation is a wonderful gift for someone that isn't able to have kids. :)

I too think it's a great thing to do. Ijust think you should do it out of the kindness of your heart not to make $$$. And it sounds like that is why you are wanting to so i think it's a great idea as far as that goes. But how are you going to feel knowing that their are kids out there that came from you? You need to really think about how this will affect your life. I think it's a great thing but I would defenitely think long and hard on this. God bless you for wanting to help out another couple.

I don't know about places in Atlanta, but here in Norfolk, they will not accept donations from someone who doesn't already have children.

When they call them 'donations' ...I should clarify my post - I would DONATE or accept payment if in that situtation. I agree it shouldn't be done ONLY for the money....but I also think money would be a main motivator in some cases.....and why shouldn't women be paid to do this ? men are.

Single, educated blonde haired blue eyed girls get 10k for their eggs here. Guess where I'm going when I get my diploma.

I have thought about it long and hard and I can't see anything wrong w/ helping a needy couple AND paying off my student loans, too.
