| Having a Ban on Yorkies I couldn't tell if this was serious or a satire piece. Thoughts? Why Stop at Pit Bulls? Miami-Dade Must Ban Yorkies | Miami New Times |

| I get it - I do. Much as I love Yorkies, constant barking nearby would drive me CRAZY!!! You cannot sleep, rest or even enjoy your life living near a dog like that. And it's not the dog's fault - it's the owner's - but still - I couldn't stand to live in a condo next to a constantly or frequently barking dog. I'd make the owners of barking dogs move if they couldn't control their dogs, not ban Yorkies!

| I can't tell if this article was satire or not but I don't agree that anyone should have a dog in a condo or apartment. I went for YEARS not owning a dog because my contracts of leasing stated that I could not have one. I had a cat, instead. I now have a detached home and, finally, I have Teddy. No one is entitled to a dog but everyone should be entitled to some peace. A ban, though, is ridiculous. Maybe suggest some training courses or something until leases can be reworded etc. |

Just wanted to add that I wouldn't say 'NO' to a proposed ban on screaming, misbehaved children. Maybe Miami is the place I should live! | |

| Lexi is not a big barker.... until we leave the house. It is something we have been working on, but luckily we live in a detached house so don't have to worry about her bothering the neighbors. I remember when researching Yorkies, I kept ready that Yorkies are great dogs for apartments/condos because they are so small. Then in the same article it would talk about issues with barking and separation anxiety. I remember thinking, that they would be a horrible dog for a apartment if barking can be an issue. I'm sure there are plenty of yorkies that don't bark when their owners leave, but if I lived in an apartment I don't think I would take that chance. I have lived in plenty of apartments that allowed dogs, but I always owned cats until I got an actual house. |

| Take a look at how many Yorkies are in the Miami-Dade County kill shelter. It's just SICK!

| I thought this is an excellent satirical article. I am very opposed to breed specific legislation. Each individual dog should be judged on its own merit. I lived in an apartment with a Yorkie, and we had no issues. After her, while in my home now, I had three Yorkies, all who barked, but not excessively. I think we would have been fine in an apartment. Katie, who came to me at the age of three impeccably trained, almost never barks inside. Her breeder told me she only barked at night, just as an alert, possibly one bark. She now barks at some dogs and cats when we are outside, but still not excessively. I definitely understand why having to listen to a dog barking all the time would be upsetting. People giving up an animal who they made a commitment to and surreending him/her to a kill shelter is very sick, whether it's a Yorkie or any other breed.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I found it difficult to come down on one side or the other for this article. At first I thought it tongue n cheek, then somewhere 2/3 rd of the way through, I went hmmmmm. Could the author want to convey a message and used a tongue in cheek subterfuge to do it? I am against BSL legislation and yet in so many States and Provinces we continue to loose that battle. I also feel that pet owners do come under attack and erosion of our rights to own and love dogs. We make an easy target. We are poorly represented and we have no coherent voice. We are sadly divided amongst ourselves and we are our own worst enemy when it comes to legislation. Look at the divisions that can be leveraged against owners who love and want to own dogs; pet owners not understanding or supporting breeders, pet owners who have a bias against certain breeds of dogs, pet owners who want to spay and neuter early, pet owners who don't, pet owners who believe in vaccinations, and pet owners who believe in just enough vaccinations, pet owners who believe in training, and those that don't. We criticize those owners who allow their dogs off lead, those that don't pick up poop, dogs that pee on trees and lawns.

| Instead of BSL, I would like to see enforcement of leash and containment laws and stiff penalties for the humans when dogs harm humans or other pets. If pets were adequately contained and leash laws observed, I don't think BSL would have ever happened. Too many loose dogs or inadequately controlled dogs leading to too many tragedies. Too many people who are irresponsible with pets.

| I'm supposed my neighbors haven't complained from how much Molli barks ALL the time. BSL is a slippery slope though, it is important to bring these things up because when we start judging animals by their breed it really is an injustice. I hope this could never happen, I'd just move.
