Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Know anything about outlet wiring/GFCI tripping...troubleshooting? So, our espresso machine is plugged into one of our GFCI outlets (and has been for years) and it started blowing the outlet suddenly at a specific point in the brewing process. To rule out a prob w/ the machine, I plugged it into another outlet and it works fine, no blowing. Next, we replaced the GFCI outlet itself, and it still keeps tripping when we use the espresso machine. So, what would I check next? The actual fuse at the circuit breaker or what? I don't want to call an electrician for something that seems so simple...I want to do it myself if possible. Anyone have some expertise in this area?

| Sounds like it might be something in the wiring beyond the GFC. But I'm not an electrician. Something is making that line pop.

| Do you have any other GFCI outlet in the house? Other than the espresso machine, have you tried any other machines? Have you tried installing a regular outlet instead of the GFC?... I'm not a electrician either but we had a similar issue at my home. For us though, it had to so with wiring crossing and shorting the signal. |

| Try installing another GFCI... they can be bad right out of the box. If another new one fails... I'd look further down the line.

| We had similar problems that disappeared as mysteriously as they began. Nothing changed in our usage. Sorry I cannot offer any advice.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Seems odd that it is just now doing it after a year. Its possible that there are too many plugs on the same breaker causing it to overload. I'd also suggest checking your ground wires inside the outlet to be sure that they are connected properly/tight. Sure wish I could figure out why our stupid garbage disposal stopped working after 4 years. Its been out for 4 years now. I reset it, tested the plug and even tore that darn thing apart and rewired it. Still nothing !

| GFCIs don't normally trip unless there is water involved... It's why they are installed in bathrooms and kitchens. The GFCI is there to protect you and your equipment. It has already done that. The fact that it does not trip with other things, but does with your machine indicates that the GFCI is working and your machine has an electrical fault....

The wiring is correct on the new one we just put in, so it's not that...but thanks for those who suggested checking that.

| Just an FYI: I had to install 3 'new' GFCIs (bad out of the box!) in my bathroom till one finally worked correctly. And another one in my kitchen always kicked off, but now, years later, the top plug works reliably. The bottom plug will still kick off whenever anything is first plugged in or unplugged. Makes me wonder how safe anything is! Also I have doubled the number of smoke detectors in the house, lol.

| I would NOT be happy! But look at it this way....if it wasn't the machine and the GFC outlet you would have needed to call in an electrician, had to look at back crack while they were working on the outlet and it would have been a $300+ tab for that as well.
