| ![]() This is such a heart-breaking story. I just read that when the rumor spread that 12 were alive that the church began ringing its bells and everyone was celebrating. I can't imagine the emotional roller coaster these people have been through. My heart goes out to all of the families affected. |

| ![]() My husband use to work in the mines before we moved to GA. His dad died in the mines and a few days later my husband went right back in. This is truly a horrific ordeal to go through. My whole family were miners at one time. My grandfather, father, & uncles all retired from the mines. Thank God that they never went through anything like this. My heart goes out to all of the families and the whole town. The whole time I was watching this story all I could think of was thank God that Jimmy no longer works in the mines and that I will hopefully never have to go through this with a family member. I do still have a brother-in-law that works in the mines but, I don't think that he has much longer to go before he can retire.

| ![]() I, too, stayed in a recliner all night with the TV on and when the first announcement was made, I too praised the LOrd and thanked Him for hearing our prayers. AFTER THREE HOURS, those poor people had been at the church, again I know about those things as I grew up in WV and the church was usually the largest gathering place. They had planned what they would say, how they loved them and in some cases, would beg them to not go underground again. Then, came the word that there was only ONE survivor who had been taken out to the hospital when the original erroneous message was made. Those people need our prayers and help and any peace they can find to get thru this. They are strong, stoic and supportive as long as they need to stick together. But, lordy mercy, don't do something the perceive as wrong or your head will roll. They already are talking suit and I am sure LAWYERS of all kinds will come out of the woodwork like the ambulance chasers of old.. They need to find peace within themselves and each other before they can move on. God is their ally and friend, but they can pose some hard questions to Him sometimes.. My nephew is a fire boss and night shift foreman so I called them as soon as I heard the news and they told me the structures and what each thing meant. He also said they would not find a live person for several reasons. He said the cause would be a methande problem related to the barometric pressure changes. He was spot on at least, so for. |

The news reporters had very little to do with the situation. The news came thru the families and friends at the church had already been told of the survival of the 12. In coal-mine towns, there is a network of news sharing that for most of us, is unfathomable..This is one of the first times I can remember that newspeople jumping the gun was not the case. The church bells rang telling the town the news BEFORE any reporter said the words..I guess I have to cut the news media a little slack this time.. | |

What part of WV are you from? My husband is orginially from Beckley and we still have family there. With all of my family retired from the mines I can relate with what they are going through even though I never went through this myself. My father-in-law died in the mines but, it wasn't the result of an explosion it was electricution(sp). My husband worked in the mines for almost 10 years, my dad did strip mining, my grandfather is a retired supervisior, my uncles have also retired. I have a brother-in-law that still works in the mines. I sat and watched it with my husband and he was giving a lot more information than what they did on tv as far as what they were doing. I feel so sorry for everyone.
