Paula Deen will not be missed by me. She lost any respect she may have had when she conceiled her diabetes for over 2 years while still promoting butter and sugar and fat. She only came clean whn she signed a contract with a drug company.

I haven't watched her on purpose in years :D

Well they back pedaled on Robert Irvine and rehired him......

Her health issues are her right to remain private, and ALL the FN Shows are Recipes NOT the way they encourage or eat themselves everyday! There are so many BIGGER issues in this world, I am not saying what she said is right, but she is not he only one who has mis spoke...Just Sayin'

Agreed. She always seemed like a hard-edged-but-sweetly-smiling phony to me but maybe she just reminds me too much of an acquaintance of my mother's!!! And then the drug deal after making her money touting the old Southern cooking ways and influencing who knows how many people to shovel in the butter, fat and sugar when she knew better.

She was quoted as saying something similar to most jokes are about Jews and gays and blacks and rednecks. Ad admitted to condoning pornography in the workplace?????

What frightens me is that there are soooo many people that have a direct effect on something that is going to actually have a consequence in my life, that spit out much more abhorrent, callous, lies and untruths, than name calling! I think the "n" word is horrible and I have never used it.....I forbid anyone to use it in my presence.....I actually cringe when ANYONE around me uses that word, INCLUDING black people that freely incorporate the word in their conversations, music, etc. in conversations in the office at work!!! Paula Dean and her speech patterns may offend me but they do me no real harm or affect one thing going on in my life. Her diabetes and her over the top fat laden cooking, is for those that want to eat like that. There is no government regulation to date, that dictates I have to eat her recepies. I happen to know that a diet like that will kill you...because we are continually pounded on TV and radio and print media of any kind, just how unhealthy meals like that are!...so I PERSONALLY opt not to eat like that... (Except I did do her Crispy Creme Donut Bread Pudding ONCE!!!!! OMG!!!!! TO DIE FOR!!!!) So, I will take all this hoopla in the context that it has, directly on my life, and quickly move on to things going on in the political scene that are going to be my economic demise. It involves a lot more serious stuff than name calling. I came home from school one day in 3rd grade and told my mother Tommy called me "stupid little girl"...momma told me, "prove him wrong and get over it".

I loved her recipes! Well maybe i like the butter, sugar, and fat. Haha. I thank her for my secret fried chicken. Lol. I don't know the whole story on what she did. So I can't really give my opinion on it.

What this will teach people is that they should lie under oath seriously that is the biggest problem that is gonna come from this.

Irvine lied on hisresume. When caught, he was let go. He then apologized and was rehired. Love him.:)

Deen used inappropriate language and such against certain groups of people awhile back. She was sued and now FN will not renew her contract.

I know so many people think she is just putting on a huge act. I can definitely see that. Still like her though. Hervrecipes may be horrible for you, but the ingredients she uses are not $$$ like most chefs on FN. Her recipes aren't difficult and hey tend to work well.

The diabetes thing never bothered me. She doesn't force anybody to eat her food. And in moderation it is fine anyway. If somebody eats like that all the time it is not her fault. I think her health issues are private unless she doesn't want them to be. Heck, I'd spill about my health problems if it would make major money.

Not sure how I feel about the latest issue though. I feel like there are gaps in the story.

I've already read on a cruise forum, that she loves to cruise and brings her entire family and staff with her. She overtakes several parts of the ship, and never meets her fans, even though the cruise is billed as a Paula Deen cruise and she's supposed to make appearances. The cruisers pay more for this also, and she just never shows. They say she's always in the casino chain smoking and playing slots.

What kind of chef smokes anyway? It kills your taste buds. That's one of the big no no's in the culinary industry; for the chefs at the top anyway.

He lied about some of his former clients, that weren't at all, like the Queen of England. He, however, did not call people the N word.

She gained popularity by cooking and showing people how to cook really bad for you food. Food that causes Type 2 Diabetes, a condition that she had bc of her food choices. She hid that fact from the public, and when you are a public figure like she is, some facts about your life that would be private to a regular person becomes public. She then signed a deal with a drug company for T2 diabetes and then lost weight. She lost weight for money, not for her health. To me she is a big fat phony. Well she used to be fat, now she's just a big phony.

No, it teaches one to tell the truth under oath and be mature enough to live with the consequences. If Ms. Deen is for real, she will take her lumps for using such vile language in her public work life around employees (that must have been a lovely work environment!), make amends in any way she can with the people she has so offended, deal with the lawsuit, make necessary changes in her life and rebuild the losses she suffers where she can. If she's genuine in her changes, the majority of people will forgive and forget in time. The word she used is deeply hurtful to the very soul black people when used so cavalierly in jokes, stories or condescendingly by white people and will always be a wedge of hard feelings and pain anytime it is used this way. I'm sure when Paula Deen testified to using such language, she and her handlers was well aware of what was about to happen to her career and even her personal life. She seems a very business and media savvy lady who has lived much of her life in public and relied on that public for her wealth and will no doubt make every effort to atone publicly often and hopefully in time the media and social media will let it die - but certainly not until they have ridden the issue for every headline possible. But she'll need to be genuine in her efforts to change her image now or she won't get very far in any public relations campaign to remake her image or the public will see right through her. Any phoniness now will come glaring through.

I have no respect for Paula Dean. She needs to reap what she sowed. Being in the public eye should have made her even more aware of what came out of her mouth. We must think before we speak. Words can hurt so much and I forgive her, Jesus would forgive, but I do not think she will gain any respect from the public for her insensitivity to precious people.

I'm going to sit this discussion out, because the whole thing makes me ill and I am absolutely seething inside over it all.

OOOPPPSS!!! You just used the "F" word!!!..........oh, never mind, THAT is OK....it is just "certain" words that are used against "select" people to ruin the name caller's life!! And since FAT PEOPLE are not a politically beneficial hot topic word, thrown down every time a political advantage needs to be made for one side or the other, that doesnt count! I use her recepies, after making adjustments in fat content and even carb content.....I could care less if she chain smokes, cusses like a drunken sailor, has diabetes or heart trouble, sleeps with everyone she can find and the good ones twice, etc......she has no effect on me and what I am doing or where I am going in life. There are much more damaging sentences uttered by really important people, in really serious hearings/courts, overheard on open mikes, that ARE going to affect each of us.....THOSE are the words/phrases/ideas that I am focused on......

The n word is used a lot by older southern people. My Grandmothers aunt who raised her would occasionally use it but not in a necessary terrible way just as if some one would say black person she would say the n word it was just how she was raised. She was anything from a terrible person though. She married her husband and took in all of his kids and was there mother and took in my Grandmother and her Brother and did amazing things and touched many lives. I also think if people don't want to be called a certain name they should also not call each other a certain name.

Personally I wonder if blacks use the word in a comraderic fashion to try to take ownership of it themselves in an effort to take much of the vile sting and power out of it from the whites who used it to to benefit themselves and dehumanize the whole black race in referring to its people derogatorily as nothing more than chattel and property for centuries right up through to the present time. It means total subjugation and humiliation, lack of any power and pain of every kind and use of force to be made to serve and work and humble oneself in behalf of a race of people whether they wanted to or not, liked it or not. I am only surmising but if I could take the power from a word that had been used against my family and my people from way back, I believe I would.

Women allow other women to call them "bitch" playfully and often use the term right back to them but no man or employer had better step in their face and use that term or tell jokes using it in their presence. Kind of the same thing but to a far, far lesser extent.

I think having rules for certain words is wrong if one person can use a word but then the other person can't then maybe the word should not be used at all. Not everyone who has used a certain word such as the n word is a terrible person and people need to remember Paula Deen is an old southern women who grew up with that word being normal at her time.

I would tend to agree with you about rules about using words except perhaps this most vile one that represents such a painful degradation, subjugation and slavery of a whole people completely against their will for centuries by another race. If those proud people want to take that word and own it for themselves in some way as a coping mechanism, I'm not the one to make that call of whether they get to have rules or not.

My coworker, who is black, says this is why it is used. Word for word what I highlighted is what he said.

Anybody that uses the N word or any type of racial slurs in this era of political correctness is definitely racist. It is just common sense not to use them and it tells alot about someone. I do have a Paula Deen cookbook though no one is forcing anyone to eat her food

Taylor I find this highly offensive. I am southern... as is/was my family. We and I do not use the "N" word. I will say in my grandma's time she used the word "colored" in the same way I would say "African American or perhaps black"-- with the people I have met as an adult and with travel bigots are not exclusive to the south.


I never liked or disliked Paula deen. I thought she was a bit over the top with the "yall" stuff. I also felt she took the "bad" parts of southern cooking and focused on it. She kinda of reminded me of the show "two fat ladies" -- they were from UK.


As far the "n" word being racist.. I think it is an insulting word. I hear my students use it and I always have a discussion with them. I hear words to white and Hispanic that are just as bad, and I see reverse predijuce all the time. It is an emotional word...
