I agree... I had such mixed feelings about the who,e mess at first. Then I started reading and I came to the decision IMO it was a "framing" Paula. She said it well...anyone who is guiltless of doing something or saying Something they are ashamed of Something when they were younger ...throw the first stone.

| ![]() The woman who filed the lawsuit, I haven't seen any news reports that she has recanted her story. Is she dropping the lawsuit? I don't have much sympathy for her because no matter what the truth is about the working environment at the restaurant and related Deen enterprises, she stayed there for 5 years -- and tried to expand her role with an unsolicited business proposal she wrote for Deen. The problem I have with Paula Deen relates to her own words in the deposition and a couple of videotaped interviews. When she talks about having wanted a true Southern plantation wedding for her brother with all black waiters. Her explanation to the lawyer deposing her was that she had been to a restaurant in Tennessee with all black waiters and they were "so professional." In an interview she talked about a relative -- great grandfather? -- who had a plantation, lost his son in the Civil War, lost the war, and lost the "workers", so he shot himself. The workers were slaves. She goes on to say, referring to the time period, that blacks were like family. Paula Deen on Livestream Only Paula Deen knows what is in her heart, but some of the things that have come out of her mouth are ![]()

Anyone married and wants to stay happily married needs to bite their tongue many times. Paula should have bit her tongue. Now she pays the consequence for her actions. I do not feel sorry for her. |

| ![]() They businesses who cut her obviously don't know loyalty and just care about money and in the end the money you made isn't going to matter.

| ![]() Okay, I know I'm way behind on this post, but I must speak up. First, I am Georgia born and raised, and I have NEVER uttered the N-word. I say good riddance to Paula Deen, not that I ever paid her much attention before. Quote:

![]() I constantly feel on the defensive when someone figures out I'm diabetic. Many people are well-intentioned, but there is judgment that goes into it, and most have no desire to learn about diabetes, the different types, and the fact that I actually CAN eat a cupcake without putting my life at risk. I actually came across this great video today, and I hope some of you will take the time to watch it: Peter Attia: What if we?re wrong about diabetes? | Video on TED.com Quote:
Type 1 diabetes is 100% not related to food at all. It is an autoimmune disease caused when the body attacks the beta cells in the pancreas. The pancreas can then no longer make insulin. This is why all type 1 diabetics require insulin to live, either by injection or infused by a pump. No amount of diet, exercise, or oral medication (to decrease insulin resistance) will make a dead pancreas start making insulin. I was a competitive gymnast, around 100 lbs, when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. My mom was a health food nut, and I ate crazy healthy growing up. I always direct people to this link, because it much more succinctly says much of what I want to say ![]() I am stepping off my soapbox. For now. ![]()

| ![]() Paula Dean admitted to using the "N" word over 30 years ago. The media has blown this completely out of proportion and I feel that Paula has become a victim.

I have never really liked Paula because she always seemed too phoney for my taste but I agree she has become a victim. What about the rapper that shows the American flag on the ground and he is stomping on it in his video? The media hasn't latched onto that like it has Paula for saying the N word 30 years ago. OK, I've said what is on my mind, now I'll shut up.

Just as a point .. The south was not the only culture based on slavery nor were people of African decent the only people's to be slaves. I am southern and proud of it, but it is a conflict for me...as proud as I am I am ashamed of the fact it was one of the last cultures that had slaves. I often wonder who we would be and what we would believe in if we were born in that time. I was blessed to be raised by a family and a community that believe we all are Gods children but others were not... I honestly feel sorry for some people who are so full of hate..from all cultures.

| ![]() That's can be true but those that are good, caring and compassionate people at heart learn to stand up to the wrongs about how they were raised as they mature and fight against it, even in the face of great hardship. I know, I was raised in a largely racist society and as a very young person fought against those in my very family when I knew they were wrong. They didn't like it but they respected my views because they were morally sound. And eventually the family changed, just like all good people do.
