The woman who filed the lawsuit, I haven't seen any news reports that she has recanted her story. Is she dropping the lawsuit? I don't have much sympathy for her because no matter what the truth is about the working environment at the restaurant and related Deen enterprises, she stayed there for 5 years -- and tried to expand her role with an unsolicited business proposal she wrote for Deen.

The problem I have with Paula Deen relates to her own words in the deposition and a couple of videotaped interviews. When she talks about having wanted a true Southern plantation wedding for her brother with all black waiters. Her explanation to the lawyer deposing her was that she had been to a restaurant in Tennessee with all black waiters and they were "so professional."

In an interview she talked about a relative -- great grandfather? -- who had a plantation, lost his son in the Civil War, lost the war, and lost the "workers", so he shot himself. The workers were slaves. She goes on to say, referring to the time period, that blacks were like family.
