| Working from home? Does anyone do this? How were you able to find this? Can I do this? I only ask because each time I look into something like this is seems to be a scam. I am not afraid of putting a little money up front, but it seems like people want loads of money without return.

I do medical transcription (took courses when I went for Medical Assistant). I found the company on Craigslist. You can only do this if you have some kind of training and a love for typing. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I agree with lynzy, though, you should never ever have to pay anything up front to work from home. If you do, its a scam.

| There are some places that let you do call center type jobs. Alpine comes to the top of my head but there are others. They require a separate phoneline (no call waiting or anything on it), a certain speed computer and connection, and quiet backgrounds. The only reason I never followed up on it when I was looking into it was because there is no way I could do it with Shelby...he barks at everything and he's LOUD lol

| Have him make a flyer of what he will do...make little tabs with his phone number and post it in churches, supermarkets, senior centers, community centers and on Craigslist.

| My plow guy, a gem of a guy who can't do very much due to inability, but is good at plowing, basic landscaping instead of the full expensive landscaping service, etc., one day I called him to help move a piece of furniture, now he moves furniture for lots of folks on weekends for estate sales, and word of mouth...he also removes old appliances and scraps them etc.... If your good word of mouth will do wonders...it all depends on what you can do.

| Hes unable to do a lot of that now. He cracked his knee cap, so standing or walking is hard for him. Also, he tore a muscle in his shoulder, so carring things (like a weedeater) is impossible.

| I've worked from home part-time for the last 2 years. I am a real estate closing coordinator. I have worked in and around real estate for years. When my kids graduated from college, I decided to no longer work my stressful job and gave my notice. My employer asked if I would be willing to stay on part-time and work from home handling their closings, so it sort of fell into my lap. Technically, I'm no longer an employee, but an independent contractor, which is self employed. I pay my own taxes, but can write off expenses, including my home office, which is good. Is their some way your husband can take something he used to do or the knowledge & connections from that and turn it into a home job? There might be a nitch somewhere, and small businesses especially like this because they don't have to give you benefits, pay their share of your payroll taxes, or provide work space/computer/etc. Those work from home ads you see are always scams. So unless it is a legit local business, I wouldn't waste your money. I do know someone who briefly did 1-800-flowers from home briefly. She answered phones and took orders from her house. But she did it part-time on the side of her regular job. I also know someone who does some bookkeeping for different self-employed people at home. But she has been a bookkeeper her whole life. What did your husband do before his accident? |

| I work from home, have for years but I should note I work for a very "remote work" company. They have the mindset of my company is that my job does not require me to be in a office but it does require me to work. People get the impression that working from home means you can sit around in your fuzzy bunny slippers and PJ all day. Not the case for me, I have to be up and showered sitting in my office working by 8:00 am every morning (those are my rules). I also have rules where I make myself feel like I am in a work office (No TV's in my office, no one but me in here when I am working and when I am done the door is shut until the next day). My advice is instead of looking for a job that states they are work from home look for a company with a liberal work from home policy.

| I retired and started really working. I do work from home. I have never paid any company or person money to get started. Most of my work is by referral. I am a writer myself. Much of my work is checking gift cards, writing how to small booklets, pamphlets, proof reading books, articles and making corrections and suggestions before the final edit is done. I doubt I could have actually supported myself doing this. LOL I am retired so only do what I want to do. I still teach puppy training classes about 3 times a year. I take my therapy dogs to visit patients. I do volunteer work with dogs, Yorkies and do home visits to seniors with Alzheimer Disease.

| The wahm (work at home moms?) forum has a telecommute section where they find leads and give updates on how these companies are working fir them. I've never gotten any great leads for myself, but they are there if you look hard enough.
