				 | OH, I love mince pies and fruitcakes - but only those I've doctored. Most of the fruitcakes are not to my liking until I'm through sweetening and moisturizing them with my special additives. Now mince pies, I love just like they are, especially the ones with the real meat. So very old country feel to eating a slice of either of those while watching A Christmas Carol or one of the old B&W classics. But when I'm president or queen, I won't make everybody eat them or take them away from all - just be sure I have my share!

				 | My Daddy always loved a big piece of mince pie and a cup of coffee at Christmas. I guess I got my love of mince from him. Fruitcake - my older sister taught me to love that. She would always serve the special fruitcake chilled, sliced razor thin and with the thickest, coldest egg nog. She always served the Cookbook Bakeries Ye Olde English Fruit Cake and it was so rich and yummy and not so full of nuts as so many are today. It had more of the candied fruits than anything, only a few nuts and was terribly moist. The actual cake part was really good, too. I was so sad when that company went out of business and stopped making that fruitcake. But then the Collin Street Bakery in Waco, Texas kind of stepped in and took over all the fruitcake market down here. We usually drive down to Waco and buy ours each year. Never been in their bakery that it wasn't full of customers!

What surprised me was to find that a lot of British wedding cakes were and still are fruitcake, even William and Kate's just recently.

				 | Umm what is a PODDLE of apples???? 2 lbs raisins 3 lbs currants 1½ lbs lean beef 3 lbs beef suet 2 lbs moist sugar 2 oz citron 2 oz candied lemon peel 2 oz candied orange peel 1 small nutmeg 1 pottle of apples the rind of two lemons, the juice of one 1/2 pint brandy Stone and cut the raisins once or twice across, but do not chop them; wash, dry and pick the currants free from stalks and grit, and mince the beef and suet, taking care the latter is chopped very fine; slice the citron and candied peel, grate the nutmeg, and pare, core and mince the apples; mince the lemon peel, strain the juice and when all the ingredients are thus prepared, mix them well together, adding the brandy when the other things are well blended; press the whole into a jar, carefully exclude the air, and the mincemeat will be ready for use in a fortnight.

				 | You can have that applie pie at Christmas! I can only eat my seasonal pies and desserts at Christmas and I guess that's what makes them so special - they are eaten only then.

				 | My mom used to make fruitcake when I was a kid. When I got old enough and brave enough to say I hated it (my brothers did too) she said she did too and stopped making it, thank goodness! I haven't had it in like 25 years! (maybe longer!) and Mincemeat, well Ive NEVER had that, and probably would NEVER eat that. My MIL brings it over every Thanksgiving, not homemade, store bought and its nasty looking, smelling and no one eats it but her. I am sick of Chinese food! I need to get through tonight, one more night of Chinese food! My little brother has been staying with us for 2.5 weeks and Chinese is his favorite. I eat it maybe 3x a year.... but he eats it 3x a week easily. We've had a lot of it over the last 2 weeks since he's going to be deploying to New Delhi for 3 years he wanted to 'stock up' on it! If I didn't see it again until next New Years, I'd be ok with that! LOL
