My Daddy always loved a big piece of mince pie and a cup of coffee at Christmas. I guess I got my love of mince from him. Fruitcake - my older sister taught me to love that. She would always serve the special fruitcake chilled, sliced razor thin and with the thickest, coldest egg nog. She always served the Cookbook Bakeries Ye Olde English Fruit Cake and it was so rich and yummy and not so full of nuts as so many are today. It had more of the candied fruits than anything, only a few nuts and was terribly moist. The actual cake part was really good, too. I was so sad when that company went out of business and stopped making that fruitcake. But then the Collin Street Bakery in Waco, Texas kind of stepped in and took over all the fruitcake market down here. We usually drive down to Waco and buy ours each year. Never been in their bakery that it wasn't full of customers!
