| Relocating I know now is probably not the best time economically to move. There is so much uncertainty I feel now more than ever. However, I am really on a mission to relocate out of NY. I've seen my grandparents struggle to own their house, only to teeter tooter on having it taken away because of the taxes and them being on a fixed income. On the other side of my family, my grandma had to give up her house when she had to live in a nursing home. My parents are still working hard to finish paying off their house. Me, well as a college graduate soon to be for the 3rd time, $1200+ in rent and utilities is getting me nowhere. Living in an overpriced basement apartment, or overpriced studio apartment is not my idea of living life. I don't need much, but I seriously need to improve my quality of life. I feel that this move is exactly what I need. I have no desire to stay in NY, especially Long Island. I never did and this Hurricane pretty much sealed the deal. My dream of owning a house here went to college tuition. It is just not realistic. Plus, I am single. So, no help from anyone. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on relocating? I want to move from Long Island, NY to PA. I would like to set a date for the end of next year or sometime the following year. Is this realistic? I am also considering buying a new car (cash) is this something that should be done before you move or when you get there? Thanks for all suggestions. I really need the advice to put things into perspective.

| I won't be very good at giving advice. I have lived in my current state my entire life. Never moved out of state before. My question is, why did you choose PA? Do you have family there? I think you need to follow your heart and dreams. I think you will regret it if you don't. That is just my opinion. Again, I have never relocated so take this advice however you want to. You will not hurt my feelings if you tell me I am clueless. As far as the car goes, I think I would tackle one hurdle at a time. Which would you prefer to happen first? Once you are back in a comfortable situation, then tackle the next one. Again, just my opinion. This is a tough decision and I wish you the best of luck!

| For almost the same reasons, Chad and I are thinking of relocating to Austin. $1800 for a 700 1 bedroom is awful, and rent will be going up next year. Ugh. My advice, though, is to wait to buy a car. Otherwise you'll have to pay double the fees (fees to NY when you purchase and then fees to PA when you move). If you can, definitely wait. As for the moving time frame, that's completely up to you. You can move out next week if you want too, but you won't be prepared. Start looking for work first. Many places will do interviews over the phone. Then, once you have something secured, look at apartments in your new pay range. SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! Cut back your spending as much as you can. Buy essentials and buy in bulk to cut costs. Being single, it may seem daunting but you won't have to buy again next month. Or possibly until you're in your new place. That's what immediately comes to mind. Good luck to you! What an exciting time.

| Thank you so much for your response. It's reassuring that I am not the only one that feels this way. I save every penny and although it sucks to go without, I feel in the long run it's worth it! I am currently pacing myself and not rushing things, but certainly pre- planning. Are you saying I should but in bulk now, or when I initially move?

I don't have family or anybody in PA. For the most part, my family is spread out in NY and other states I wouldn't dream of moving to. To be honest I do not know why I have such a strong urge to move there. It is something I always wanted to do. I don't have any real attachments here, so I don't fear being alone. If anything it is the fear of relocating after being here so long. I feel if I don't do it soon, I will never get out of here. I've work at my job for 7 years and I am too comfortable. I have the ability to move up, but then I'll be here even longer.

| I say go for it! I moved to Raleigh, NC after college and it was a great experience. While I love it there my heart was here in Maryland. I don't regret going or coming home. Before I became a wife and Mom I got to be somewhere else....I think it helped me figure myself out a little better I also can relate on the cost of living its expensive here as well! I don't allow myself to look at what I could get elsewhere lol. I agree with saving your money and having a plan. I am sure it will all work out for you

You'll more than likely finish it before you leave. You can also take it with you (always forget food when you first move...ha ha) or you can donate it your local homeless shelter. Also, there are corporate housing that you can rent from for a while until you find an apartment, should the job come sooner than you think.

I'm hoping to negotiate relocation costs, but preparing to do it on my own if needed. Certainly things to keep in mind. Thank you.

| If you are close to your family, I wouldn't move too far away if I could help it so it won't be so expensive to visit for holidays, weddings, sickness. You could check on the nearest states with no State income tax and lower living expenses, housing, etc. on Google. Perhaps a real estate agent or rental agent could help you find a cheaper place to live.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I know what you mean, LI is getting more and more expensive. Just start looking around the areas you would like to move to in PA. Then smart looking for jobs. It might take you a while but you will find something. Good luck
