| Green funerals?? have any of you ever heard of them? a friend at work was talking about it. the body is NOT embalmed and there is NO casket, burial is like back in the old days, wraped in a sheet or something and put in the ground to go back to nature, hence "green funeral" it's not legal in all states she says. |

| Im pretty sure that it isnt legal in TX,atleast not in the cities. Not only is a casket required but a concrete vault to put the casket in,in the ground. Kinda makes it hard for the ashes to ashes and dust to dust. Concrete stays around forever. |

| I have been doing research on home funerals. You take care of your departed loved ones at home yourself. There are websites that even have videos explaining how to take care of everything from getting permits (if necessary), washing the body, plugging "holes" so that the body won't leak and setting up a viewing. The home funerals I watched used a home made wooden casket that was then decorated by the loved ones. Actually, the whole process was done with so much love - and it gave the family a purpose and help in the grieving process. |

| I like this idea, but I do understand the reasons for it being banned in many places -- health risks. I have told my family not to spend money on a casket, headstone, memorial. I want to be cremated and have my ashes spread at a designated place.

| I have heard of it. In Texas as far as I know it's not permitted. I already have all of my plans done and paid for, and even my Urn for whne the time comes. That way all anyone has to do is call a number and it all taken care of from there, even getting the ME to sign off on it. In Texas if your being cremated a ME a has to sign the death certificate.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Health concerns aside and if addressed, I actually really respect and like this idea. I'm not the biggest fan of many/most aspects of the funeral industry. I think it involves too much waste - materials, money, "things", grandiosity and not enough of what they really should be about (imho). I feel so strongly about the funeral thing that I even have it in my will that I don't want a funeral type deal when I pass . This really shouldn't be a surprise to my relatives since I didn't go to my college graduation, wouldn't have a bridal shower, wouldn't have a wedding (just me and hubby), don't like celebrating holidays...and on and on....they'll just be all "no funeral for Ann? Yeah, well DUH."

| I like the idea of a 'green' funeral...after all...they did them for how many years before we became 'civilized'?? My husband already had a family plot in the local cemetary when we met 32 years ago, and this is his home town so this is where we will be burried. Our headstones are already in place...we haven't done the final arrangements yet but neither of us wants a visitation and all that...just a simple, no frills graveside service for family and close friends. |

| I like the idea, but I think I just want my ashed spread somewhere that I love. So much money is wasted on funerals and I think it's excessive nowadays. I know my mom has expressed interest in wanting to be cremated, but we know that if she goes before my dad... she will be buried. He is very traditional and has spent a lot of time at graveyards researching our family geneology. DH and I are both not religious, so we want to be cremated and have our ashes spread. I think the 'green funeral' is a happy medium... You still get the headstone, but you don't waste money on a box that's going to be buried in the ground.

| One pf the funeral homes here offers "green funerals" the one my family uses actually...no heavy chemical emboldening but they put people in a casket, its untreated wood so it eventually decomposes...like way after the body has...the idea is to not create leaching of toxins into the earth. They also offer "green" cremation... Personally I love this idea. I can't phathom these forever caskets let alone their costs! What they hey if yoy want to last forever be shipped to Egypt for "green"cremation old fashioned mummification...just because you're dead and gone doesn't mean its okay to mess up the only known inhabitable planet in the universe...just sayin'. I will not admit that after my grandpa's naval service spreading his ashes in the ocean a possible part of them was illegally spread in the river at his favorite spot...that would he illegal...just like he liked it.
