Skunks can sleep for a while, then come out to spray. I think if you haven't seen him, it's because he is sleeping.....

I do believe you are right Cathy Last night we were gone to our oldest DS birthday party...came home and of course Jada and Bogie were going wild as they always do when we come home...right after that the odor came back somewhat. I am sure the d@mned thing is still under there. It has no way out other than into the live trap so surely it will want to come out sooner or later.
I guess if it isn't out soon we will be calling a wildlife exterminator of some sort.

You poor thing. Skunks suck. Sorry no better way to say it. I am telling you Michelle, get a Beagle. Mine killed that skunk dead as a door nail!! Ha ha. If my sweet Buck was still here I would let you "borrow" him. RIP Buck

See!!! Jodi and I told you....Cathy is the ONE to remove your skunk. She obviously knows these critters as well as birds!

See if you can put some moth balls under where you think it may have gotten in at. Not too many because the smell of them can cause upset with your pups. But just enough to get rid of the skunk. It worked with the bunnies we had under our shed.

You all are cracking me up.... but I still think that if you want them to leave your best bet it so try the moth balls.

Do you have the trap set up in a way that he can come out of the hole and than into the trap? If not that may be what is stopping him from leaving.

See if there is some way to surround the hole and the trap (bait the trap). or you could try to remove the trap, put moth balls in the hole and replace the earth. That way you can tell if he as entered the hole or has left the hole. Than plug it up once you know he has left. Remember they are nocturnal.. so he will most likely sleep during the day and make his exit at night. That is when you will want to check to see if the earth has been disturbed.

Mothballs frighten me because they are toxic to dogs. I would make sure they are no where near any place my pups could get to.
