| OMG it was horrible!!!! I think I just killed a dog . I was driving over the causeway and this guy was walking beside his dog, who evidently wasn't on a leash, and the doggy ran out in front of me! I slammed on the brakes, heard a big bump and dog crying. Stopped the truck, put on the flashers, and waited for some cars to go by so I could get out without getting hit myself, and the guy and dog were GONE! I walked up the hill a bit and didn't see anyone anywhere. It was really weird! Hopefully the dog went mostly underneath my truck (It's pretty high) and wasn't hurt too badly, or killed. There is a freaking leash law for a reason, and this poor dog is now suffering because his idiot human didn't have him on one I feel so sick and cried all the way home. My poor MIL was with me (she's 92) and she was trying to console me, bless her heart. I'm glad she wasn't hurt by the sudden stop I had to make! Anyway, just felt like I needed to let that out

| Oh no! Why do people not keep their pets secure. I am so sorry. Every time I have ever hit anything I cry my eyes out. So I understand.

YT 1000 Club Member | Oh dear this is so sad but you cannot blame yourself. Like you said, the idiot human should have had his baby on a leash. Did you see any blood on the roadway? If not, then maybe the dog was only bumped and took off scared (and his human did too)!

| I didn't see any blood, no. I am hoping and praying that the dog did run off and that it was found quickly so that it could be taken to the vet. I just don't know what happened to them, dog and owner just disappeared! I had my MIL with me and couldn't really stick around as I had to get her home. I'm just thankful that she wasn't hurt by the sudden stop. WHY do people think that it's okay to walk their dog without a leash, let alone on a busy road. I think I'm probably going to have nightmares about this for some time. I ran over a squirrel once and that had me upset for a long time, as I just love all animals and feel that each one is valuable and their lives mean something, you know? Sigh.

| I bet the dog ran afterward and the owner went after him. This is just so sad and not your fault at all. Was a large dog? Something similar happened to me many years ago. The dog ran home and I went to the door to tell the owners that I had hit the dog. He was sitting on the floor in their living room like nothing happened. I was in tears and had 6 kids standing with me at the door to this house. You did all you could have possibly done. I'm so sorry

| Bless your heart I know how upsetting it is. I have never hit a dog but I have hit a couple of cats. Seeing one hit a few years back had me in such a state I hope and pray I never hit one. Don't blame yourself though, because like everyone has said there is a leash law and unless the dog got out someway there is nothing you could have done. Hope it was just a minor thing and didn't kill it but try to understand you could have done nothing to prevent it. It happens so fast and they just dash out in front of cars sometimes and its impossible to keep from it. Hope you feel better soon. |

| I hope the dog is ok too. It's not your fault. A few months ago I was trying to wrangle up a little white dog, scared out of his mind, running around the streets. I saw him get hit by a car right before my eyes, but he survived and ran off the street. I still think about that guy. Then before that, I was driving at night and I think I hit a cat. I heard a noise like I hit something, and looked in my rear view, and saw something dart off into the bushes off the road. I turned around and didn't see any blood or hear any moaning. I think it had to have been a cat, being that nimble, and hopefully I barely got him and he went between the wheels. It shook me up for a while. I felt so bad, I actually called out I'm sorry, like he could understand me.

| Yeah don't blame yourself, honey. You were driving and he wasn't leashed. Believe it or not minor crashes sound horrendous even from far away. Maybe he was a resilient dog that bumped his hiney against your car and that's the big thump you heard. He probably yelped from it hurting and getting scared bc if he was that bad you would have seen them somewhere stopped on the side of the road flagging down help. I can say with certainty you didn't kill him especially without seeing blood. But hopefully his owner is as scared as you and will put a leash on Fido! So go relax and have some wine.
