| Don't try to ban the dictator of the Banning Thread here in the games forum. He will tease you mercilessly if you make any kind of mistake. All in good fun. I often type like English is my second language. Don't worry about any of the internet police.

| I can't stand it when people can't spell simple words. It's not that hard. but I get that English is not the primary language of some though. However, I did see on one forum, someone complaining about a member being a primadonna. They spelled it "pre-Madonna". I didn't even get what they were saying at first, until someone corrected them. I thought that was totally warranted. It's like when someone tries to use a big word to impress people, but they use it in the wrong context. I would correct them. |

| I once posted an ad on craigslist for an "IPOD" I received a reply email from a guy explaining how it was actually an IPod- the O and D are not capitalized. LOL! Seriously? What a sad life to have to patrol the internet for something like that. I say feel bad for the person and forget worrying about spelling- aren't there more important things in the world?!

| I am very hard on myself about spelling. I used to want to go to school to be an English major. Just another unreasonable expectation I've set for myself. With other people it doesn't really bother me, but just makes me feel kind of sad that some simple, everyday words have not been learned. But I don't judge & am in no way perfect. That little red line, or even 14y.o. dd have saved my butt many times. ![]() I'll tell you what really annoys me-when people sing our National Anthem with the wrong lyrics. What the heck is up with that? I say "Police Away"!

| I think correcting people on a public forum is rude. I think the person doing the correcting feels small and this maybe their one talent so they feel bigger by correcting others. I am so self conscience of the fact that I am a horrible speller. I am Dyslexia and have a learning disability. It took many years before I had the confidence to know I am very intelligent ...it is just a learning disability. Like being color blind or something. I have learned some coping skills to deal with the disability. I just cant seam to make words " mine" and Remember them, i also have a Difficult with Pronuncation. My dh says it is my "hillbilly" accent but with being in Miami 26 years I really can't blame that anymore. By the way I have a master degree in education and have been. Teacher for 24 years I think there is fine balance of helping people learn and tearing people down... When ever you hurt someone's feeling in the process you have done something g wrong.

| the only time it's acceptable to correct spelling on an open internet forum is when you are close to the person like me correcting Jodi or Mary or Amanda or something. Most of the time I'll never have to correct anyone, but sometimes when it's an obvious typo and not an error it's fun to give em' a bit of hell for it ![]() correcting a stranger not out of joking but seriously just correcting spelling would be rude and annoying. |

| I will admit I received a letter one day, and corrected the spelling and grammar in red ink and sent it back...... However, in my defense, the letter was from none other than my son's high school English teacher. I feel justified. We also had a very heated discussion on the I vs me in a sentence. She was wrong!

![]() But in all seriousness, I don't think spelling counts in casual Internet usage. Most of the time people are replying quickly and not worrying about perfection.

| Somebody misspelling words don't bother me so much - after all, it could be a simple typo or what have you, but what drives me nuts is when people intentionally spell words wrong or write paragraphs with no punctuation at all even though there were several complete sentences. I'm not talking about run on sentences, I'm talking about just purposely not ending a sentence and it keeps going on and on and on and on. I get lost reading it. I also especially hate when people TyPe LiKe ThIs. Again, the things that I hate is when it is done intentionally. If I see any posts like the things I described, I will 99% of the time not even read or respond.

| I totally agree about the run on sentences with no capitals and no punctuation. Drives me crazy and actually I finally throw up my hands and decide it is not worth reading. Spelling... I try so hard to get things correct... however, I have reread some of my past posts and see I did not do the greatest and made spelling and other mistakes. So, no judging here.

| I often flip-flop between the British spelling of words and the American spelling, without even realizing it...add auto-correct to the mix, and the result can be a real mess. However, one some online sites, like Craigslist, I find poor spelling really frustrating. Try searching for an armoire....and you miss those that spell it "armwar". Trying searching for wrought iron .....and you miss those that spell it "rawt ion". I'm sure there's a lovely "armwar with rawt ion axe cents" out there that I'm missing out on...lol

| Oh my... this is a loaded question. first I think that correcting stuff online is ridiculous. HOWEVER. being a teaching assistant for 5 different university courses, it's time for me to add in my biggest pet peeve. I cannot believe the amount of people who depend on spell check from Word for their proof reading. My biggest nemesis is "Costumer" yes I understand that a person who makes costumes is a "costumer"; however, I highly doubt that 4 out of 40 management students are directing their non-theatre/halloween related business proposals to people in the costume industry. LOL. Sorry I had to have that rant. it DRIVES me crazy.
