| I had terrible heartburn during pregnancy and used to chew those things called "Chewz" or something like that constantly until I learned to eat low fat and several small meals a day. Still needed those mint chewing gum things even then. Boy, when I was 8 mos. we went out for a special spaghetti dinner to a fine restaurant and it took 24 hours to get over the effects of all that burning, fatty food I scarfed down! I still remember the after effects of that dinner out! I changed right back to being very good after that meal!

| i get heartburn from a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. "WHO KNEW" i've had acid reflux as an adult and taken zantac for the spewing acid session after my favorite pasta dishes (Italian husband) i wonder if i need to start taking it again for heartburn too. it's really hurting me too. i burp the acid and then the burn sits in my chest and hurts until my head hurts and my body aches. it's a deep burning pain. OUCH. i think we're both going to have hairy kiddos if you ask the old wives. speaking of them in our gender reveal we played a "football" game of pink vs blue and the old wives said it as a girl by one helmet...too bad they are not so good at telling tales. it's a boy instead. |

| I have taken medications such as Pepcid, Aciphex, or Prevacid daily for longer than twenty years. If I forget to take it, even the blandest food will cause acid reflux minutes after I have one bite of food. I don't drink carbonated drinks and only drink water for the most part. I started giving Ashley Pepcid twice daily with her stomach issues, and her vet said it would not harm her. My husband's gastroenterologist told us that the only harm of taking too much Pepcid is that it might affect how much calcium the body absorbs. If your obstetrician said it's okay for you to take it, you can try one maximum strength Pepcid a day. When Pepcid was a prescription, the dosage was one maximum strength tablet twice a day. Pepcid AC is like Pepcid, but it also has something like Tums in it. Hopefully won't need to take Tums if you start taking Pepcid daily. Once you have acid, it will take over an hour for it to begin working, since it helps to stop the production of acid being made and works differently than Tums. I hope that you begin to have relief. I wish you only the best for you and your baby. |

| Those type of medications make my hair thin out! I hardly take them due to that and now eat more carefully to avoid foods that cause heartburn. Has anyone else had hair thinning when taking these types medications?

| Hope you're feeling better. When I get bad heartburn, I sip (slowly sip - no gulping) very cold ice water. The cold helps and the water dilutes the acid. |

| Jodi~ I can only roll from side to side, will that help? ![]() Thank you all for your suggestions. I feel so bad for those of you who deal with this type thing on a regular basis. Sheesh! I honestly don't see how you do it. Another girl at school is pregnant and I met her in the hall today and she was on her way to take an antacid pill. She was having the heartburn AND reflux up her neck. I am at least thankful I am not dealing with both, yet anyway. I slept like a baby last night with no heartburn and no burning today. | Hair loss is listed as one of the rare side effects of taking Pepcid or drugs in that family. I have long, thick, curly hair, but I haven't noticed any kind of hair loss. My hair isn't as thick as it was when I was young, but I think that may be more general aging. My husband has only been taking Aciphex for less than two years (vs. my taking Pepcid, Prevacid, or Aciphex for over twenty years), and he has a full head of hair with no noticeable recent thinning. Years ago I took a beta blocker for migraine prevention, and I noticed hair loss from that, so we discontinued it. This is the first I've heard of it causing hair loss probably because it is said to be a rare side effect. |
