| Carpet Be GONE We only have two rooms left that need the carpet pulled. We can not use ceramic tile in the living room (too much give ?) So we are looking at several products. One is called Allure floating floor from Home Depot. It has a 25 year warranty and is said to be very water proof. Has anyone replaced carpet with something that they would recommend ? |

| We replaced all our carpet with Hardwood floors about 6 months before I got my first Yorkie Tessie, We love it and it looks beautiful, easy to clean even after potty training, and it still shines after 3 years. We mop every week with water and a little Clorox added. We put a light coat of wax about every 2 months. Of course we clean up any potty accidents everytime with Natures Miracle Pet odor and stain remover.

| My boyfriends parents just redid their entire kitchen. The last thing they did was the floor. They could not decide what to do with the floor. They did not want tile since if it breaks they need to chip it out and its a cold floor during a cold New England winter, plus there is no give to tile, so his moms feet would ache after hours of cooking or being in the kitchen. They did not want hardwood because of their dogs and cats and the traffic is just too much, plus the cost. They did not want linoleum either (don't know why) but what they ended up finding, are these tiles that are padded linoleum (I think) that you lay down like real tiles and grout like real tiles. They keep warm in the winter, they look GREAT, just like tile, but if they wear or crack its much easier to lift one out and replace it. They have a softer feel to your feet. I seriously might consider this option when I redo my kitchen. Right now though... I'm saving my pennies so I can get hardwood throughout! I just love hardwood! I need to rip the carpet out of my living room this fall and Im going to put down the cheapest, floating wood/pergo floor I can find for a temp fix until I get my hardwood!

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | I did not want to put carpet back in either but my living room sounds a lot like your problem. I went to the carpet place to look at flooring. They now make a pad you can put down that is guaranteed not to let anything soak thru. And the carpet is also pet proof. I went with it and have not had enough time to tell you if it's true or not. As just put in this spring. It looks great now. But give me a year or two and then I can tell you what I really think. Of course the dogs are potty trained . But dogs and still occasional will have a accident. And then I have young grandkids that will test it to with spills. He said to just clean with water. Again have not tested that out either. Of course if a dog accident I would use pet cleaner. Anyways I am hoping it is as good as he says.

That didn't leave a lot of options...... I found this vinyl tile that can be grouted at Lowe's. So far I love it. It's soft on the feet, I can clean up accidents easily and it was fast & easy to put down. I already had a water mess from the washer. The drain pipe had a hair/lint clog which caused water to back up onto the floor. I cleaned it up and the floor is perfectly fine. If I had done wood or laminate it would have been ruined. It looks better in person than in a picture.....

| I am almost carpet free too, and soon the office/den will be gone. My whole main floor living area is porcelain tile that looks like travertine. Easy care, but too hard and cold for some areas. My upstairs is all wood; I used an engineered wood, Cumaru (Brazilian teak); Love it! I can't tell you how great it is to be free of carpet. It is amazing how much dirt, hair, mold, and disgusting stuff carpet can hold.... like a big sponge. I'm just glad our climate is good for all hard surface floors, cause I could never go back to carpet.

| We have all porcelian tile here with a thin grout line and a marble look- I love not having any transition between rooms, had to wear slippers all winter- Ziva wanted some too! I found this DIY forum that looked like pretty honest comments about the Allure flooring.- Thoughts And Opinions On "Trafficmaster Allure" Flooring From Home Depot? - Flooring - Page 2 - DIY Chatroom - DIY Home Improvement Forum |

| I am a member of the hardwood club. We started in the bedroom, did the den/office and in sept, will be doing the living room and formal dining room. As soon as the patio doors are finished, we will be replacing the tile in our kitchen, dining room and powder bath. ( we are taking out a 6 foot sliding glass door and an 8 ft bank of windows and having French doors put in) I have 8x8 tile in there right now and they are white-I can't keep them clean looking to save my life!! No matter how much I sweep, mop, steam clean, etc they just always look dingy so we are putting in 17x17 on a diagonal and I can't wait!! I personally don't like lineoluem. I guess it's always stuck in my head as cheap (I know they have nice ones now) and I can remember as a kid, seeing it curl in areas on the edges and I just can't bring myself to put it anywhere in my house.

| We took the carpet out of our house, replaced with hardwoods..love love love them...I do have carpet in all my bedrooms...I just feel, carpet looks better in bedrooms, give the bedrooms that warm and cozy feel...and feels better on the feet when you get up in the mornings. I just keep all my bedroom doors closed at all times, during the day....Our babies do sleep with us but have never had any accidents YET, but We are up at 430am every morning M-F. DH gets up pretty early on the weekends too, but if, we aren't up early enough Bella & Ivy will wake us up with TONS of yorkie kisses around 7am and won't stop until one of us gets up and lets them out, and Harley, he so silly LOL stands behind the girls the whole time they are trying to get us up and barks at them, so we have no choice LOL and if one of us stays in the bed, as soon as Bella has done her business, she will come back up stairs and lick lick lick until everyone is up LOL....Can't seem to get them to sleep in with us on the weekends

Its 110 here in Florida...and at night I keep my A/C set on 70, bump it up during the day to 75 but I find that all my bedrooms are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than my living & dinning rooms, where I have the hardwood...I have Mexican tile in my kitchen and baths....LOL and I'm the same way here...I hardly ever wear socks or slippers I wear my flops.

| Recently, my vet did a renovation and they put down flooring that I thought was wood or laminate and it is linoleum. I have to say it is very beautiful and when Teddy peed on the floor in the waiting room, he did not ruin it!

| After Katrina had to redo the whole house had carpet throughout except bathrooms and kitchen. Now have hardwood thoughout and ceramic tiles in kitchen and bathrooms. If ever we have water again I think we'll just go with ceramic tile throughout. But the hardwood is great it has been down now about 5 years and still shines I use a dust mop and a steam cleaner easy as pie. And yes we still have accidents every now and then but the cleanup is super easy.
