I did not want to put carpet back in either but my living room sounds a lot like your problem. I went to the carpet place to look at flooring. They now make a pad you can put down that is guaranteed not to let anything soak thru. And the carpet is also pet proof. I went with it and have not had enough time to tell you if it's true or not. As just put in this spring. It looks great now. But give me a year or two and then I can tell you what I really think.

Of course the dogs are potty trained . But dogs and still occasional will have a accident. And then I have young grandkids that will test it to with spills. He said to just clean with water. Again have not tested that out either. Of course if a dog accident I would use pet cleaner. Anyways I am hoping it is as good as he says.
