They did not want hardwood because of their dogs and cats and the traffic is just too much, plus the cost. They did not want linoleum either (don't know why) but what they ended up finding, are these tiles that are padded linoleum (I think) that you lay down like real tiles and grout like real tiles. They keep warm in the winter, they look GREAT, just like tile, but if they wear or crack its much easier to lift one out and replace it. They have a softer feel to your feet. I seriously might consider this option when I redo my kitchen. Right now though... I'm saving my pennies so I can get hardwood throughout! I just love hardwood!

I need to rip the carpet out of my living room this fall and Im going to put down the cheapest, floating wood/pergo floor I can find for a temp fix until I get my hardwood!
I think I know what your referring to...I recently had to do my mud/laundry room and the foyer. I already knew I didn't want ceramic, it's way to cold & hard. I didn't want laminate because it tends to swell at the seams when it gets wet, at least my Pergo did. It also didn't look *real* and it echoed. I didn't want wood because of the fear of it getting wet and the expense.

That didn't leave a lot of options...... I found this vinyl tile that can be grouted at Lowe's. So far I love it. It's soft on the feet, I can clean up accidents easily and it was fast & easy to put down. I already had a water mess from the washer. The drain pipe had a hair/lint clog which caused water to back up onto the floor. I cleaned it up and the floor is perfectly fine. If I had done wood or laminate it would have been ruined.

It looks better in person than in a picture.....
