She was being evaluated to make sure she was still competent to stand trial. (to understand what is happening etc)

Competency (I think) has to do with whether the defendant can communicate with their attorney properly, aid with her defense, etc.

If it turns out to be premediated murder, then it would be a death penalty case. She was indicted by a Grand jury of first degree murder (premediated, intent to kill, aggravated etc)

The charges against her are:

First-degree murder
Aggravated child abuse
Aggravated manslaughter of a child
4 counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer:
That she worked at Universal Orlando in 2008,
That she left Caylee with a babysitter named Zenaida Fernandez
Gonzalez,
That she told Jeffrey Hopkins and Juliette Lewis that Caylee was missing,
That she received a phone call from Caylee on July 15, 2008.

Prosecution are going for a conviction on the First Degree Murder charge and are seeking the death penalty.
Think they are basing the premeditation on the internet searches for chloroform, neck breaking, household weapons etc.

If the jury decides to convict her on first degree murder and vote for the death penalty, they (under the US Supreme Court decision) would have to say what aggravating factors led to the death penalty decision. Under Florida law they only have to have a majority of them deciding on the death penalty and not give the aggravating factors which led them to that decision - this is what the Florida District Court judge said was unconstitutional, not giving the aggravating factors.

Even if the jury voted for the death penalty, it is only a recommendation, the judge has the final decision.

I've just heard that there is some speculation that she may want to testify even though her lawyers are against this, and that’s why they had the competency hearing. I’ve felt all along that she’s the type who would want to testify, I really believe she's so narcissistic, she thinks she can win and convince people she's telling the truth.

I can't see her defense attorney allowing it. She is known to be a liar and she is a convicted felon. If she takes the stand the prosecutor will have a field day with her.

The remains were skeletonized so there is no way to know the exact cause of death.

No one will ever know. There was only a skeleton so the cause of death is impossible to determine.

Yep...I totally believe that as well. I don't know why people think she is such a "good liar". I personally find her to be so horribly unbelievable. I hope she does take the stand. That will finally cook the goose.
I have watched her with her attorneys....I do think she is running the show. Did you see the come hither thing she did with her finger to motion to one of them one day? Spoke volumes to me.

I think when they say she's a good liar, they mean that she goes into great detail with her lies. She gave full names, addresses, and even family members and friends names of her nanny, who didn't exist. She didn't give up on her lie about working at Universal Studio, until the police drove her there. Most people just give a short lie.

She knows exactly what's going on. I don't believe anything she says or does. She's been caught in so many lies that it's easy to tell when she's lying, her lips are moving or she's making facial expressions.

I wish the judge let that happen too. Both the brother & fathers had dna tests & were ruled out as the father of Caylee. I could end out having to come out in court about his grasping.

They did ask the father when he was on the stand & he said no. I don't recall if they asked the brother. I know his dna isn't any part of Caylee but his reaction on the stand was really weird

Not me. If any case is screaming for the death penalty it would be this case. I don't think of the death penalty as a deterrent but a punishment for heinous acts.

I think that the tape w/the heart sticker on the mouth shows she shopped for stuff to use in the act. She also looked up chloroform eighty or so times & that's premeditated @ least to putting someone to sleep. Caylee just happened to be the one missing after that. The dog sniffers gave the sign for a dead body in the trunk. I will always believe a dog over a person.

That makes no sense to me either. Her mother obviously lied & said she was doing searches on the internet while she was actually @ work & not on her home computer. She needs to be charged w/perjury.

I might need a break from watching this trial....it's just too hard to mentally grasp. I now have started crying everytime I watch it and see Casey just sitting there, looking so unaffected. My children are literally my life...my heart & soul and I just cannot comprehend any of this.

Why is she keeping Caylee's fathers identity a secret? Doe she even know who it is?

Probably not! It could be anyone. She said that the father died in a car crash, but who knows. Having morals is not part of her vocabulary.

Ok, I'm not able to watch most of this with school, but I know that an investigator showed video today of the area where she was found. I guess it was shot a month or so before they found Caylee, and they did not find anything.

So do you think she was moved there later? If so, was this poor child kept somewhere for months and then a family member or someone put her there later.

I don't think she knows. Personally, I think Caylee looked a lot like Casey's ex-fiance Jesse Grund.

I think the guy that she claimed was the father who died in a car accident was one of her "imaginary friends" as the defense put it.

The guy in that picture does look like he could be her father. I had not seen that. I had thought that Caylee looked like her maternal grandmother more than Casey.

The part about the imaginary friends is that Casey has been caught in so many lies that nobody will believe her now even if she does throw in a truth here & there.
