| ♪♥ Jazi & Izi's Mom ♥♫ Donating Member | I've learned from this same situation....use an external backup (or two, I've seen one of those fail too)... Ok..so now I know why the mulligan wasn't banning much today. lol Guess we'll have to give him a break for his kindness. If you're able to get online at all, try an online storage service. I use Box.net | Online file sharing, content management, collaboration They usually give you a free trial period. I'd hate to lose all my music. Good luck!!!

| I do not like Norton. It slows your computer down and controls your computer instead of you controlling your computer. I use AVG Free and have had no problems.

| here's a little update....i followed much advice, looked into the online storage, will further tomorrow, went to the site roboyorkie recommended, checked out the norton message & switched the setting, defragged disk drive, tried to even out my disk usage or something and probably a bunch of other stuff that i can't remember because my brain is pc fried today!but....i did write a few things down that may shock you, as they sure did me. mully aka jim aka polo's daddy-o, had me go to a clean up site & it found 1,200 errors but would only clean 100 for free. he said he didn't know that because he had never seen 1,200 errors........roboyorkie told me to go to a diff one, basically on the same site, but totally free, and.........it said i have: 15.81MB of damaged files 196 fragmented files 7 security holes 10,494 errors!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() a bunch of other stuff too, but i just wanted to share the juiciest gossip . it fixed all of them best i can tell. there are tons of options of things it can do, i put it to the test and def got my monies worth ($0)! lol. i'm back on mozilla, have spell check back tho i still choose not to capitalize , things are considerably faster, tho not up to par, i believe we are on the right path. thanks so, so, so much!

I don't like it either. My computer got a virus while using Norton. When I took it in to get it cleaned up, they recommended Microsoft Security Essentials which is free. So far so good.

I use AVG free and LOVE it. Norton sucked the life out of my computer before I switched.

| i had avg free then a local pc shop here told me to get norton. i have a 60 day free trial so i'm not stuck with it. i had it before on my ex's pc, about 4-5 years ago & he still got a major virus. we contacted norton and we had to pay i think $90 to have it removed, as they said it was too advanced to be detected by them, etc. etc. this 2011 version has constantly updating definitions and scans for much more than avg. with the new software roboyorkie told me about i think, hope and pray the two will cover almost everything. the downside is it will cost me $70 for 2 computers for a year. idk what i'll do yet, looks like i have to do hard system restore so i want every preventable thing under the sun on there so i don't have to do this again!

| you can also download microsoft security essentials. Its a free program, and goes great with AVG Free. Before you do a full restore, have you ran Smart defrag from Iobit? Should fix any other issues you might be having with speed. |

| Robo, I got a reply this Am that the subject PC was running loud, and there was a red X... with the following error message..."C/: system delay restore write failed or similar". I do not know if Norton was performing a backup... I am awaiting a reply, but am concerned that the Hard drive is failing ... , uless the loud noise was a fan, but the error message is indicative of a writing issue...and even if it was a backup... why did the write fail?

| yes, i ran the smart defrag the same day i downloaded the other tools you recommended. if i remember correctly, that didn't find any real issues. i'm just thinking more and more this thing is just begging for an immediate invitation to the parking lot via my 3rd floor window! ![]()
