| Snake!!!!!! I live in the country. I am not ashamed to say around here we live in mobile homes. (I always say emphasis on home, not mobile). There are snakes around sometimes. I am def afraid of snakes. Can not stand them. Neither can my sister in law who lives in a older, run down trailer. Shamed to say glad this happened to her not me. Last month dh and his bro moved their washer/dryer which is in their bathroom around to fix it and found a snake skin behind it. Could not find any hole where a snake might of came in. So they sd ok. Flash forward to last Thursday. Sil was on the toilet. Guess what she sees going behind the dryer. SNAKE! She ran out of the bathroom to the living room. Her hubby is a vault setter so he was out of town at a funeral, my dh was not home (and she knew better than to call me). Her dad who lives down teh road is in a wheelchair so he was out. She finally went to the preacher's house and asked him to help her. They did not find the snake, not sure where it went. My question was "and you are still in the home, why?" I told my mom she would have had a boarder for awhile till everything was checked and sealed up. What would you have done?

| I would have called an exterminator, and couldn't sleep there until it was found, and would have the place inspected to see where they are getting in. I pretty much hate snakes worse than anything, and luckily we don't have they in Hawaii.

| NO WAY would I stay there. Snakes are common here in older farm homes, and the favorite guests are black snakes that reach 6-8 feet long! My friend was renting a 2-story farm home, and she found one (5 ft) in her bathroom. They are harmless, and I am not afraid of snakes since we don't have venomous ones here, but still I will not share my home with a free roaming snake! Even worse for your SIL because it could be venomous living in TN. I sure hope she finds it. To get rid of the snake or future snakes, you must get rid of their food source. If they are in your home, there is a good chance there are mice close by.

| Left, not to return until the exterminators or whatever guaranteed the place was free of all slitheries. And then I don't know if I could actually sleep there even after that.

| I like Boopster's answer. Chacha: According to bil it was a black snake. They know there had been one outside for the past several years. I once saw a bird pick up and drop a small snake. It went under our trailer which was not underpinned on one side at the time. I freaked out, called dh at work and demanded that he come home and get it out. Had visions of it coming up the commode. A teenager helping another sis in law next door, climbed under the trailer, caught it and told me just a garden (?) snake, nothing bad. He took it with him. By the time dh came home, I was crying hysterically. Trailer was underpinned the next weekend. We live out in the country so snakes are not unusual. I tend not to return to a place where a snake has been spotted.

| I hate snakes too. Any kind. I like to piddle in my flowers and yard, but I am so jump-ie. I have had encounters with the black snakes (racers) and the garder snakes, they scare me so bad. I am not hanging around long enough to see if they are posion or not. snake.jpg Last year as I was trying to over come my fear of snakes here comes this monster around my garage. I went and got camera to take a picture so I could find out if this was a garder snake. I was not that close I zoom till I could get a good picture. I was tired of my son making fun of me when I would try to explain what color and kind it was. |

What a pretty little garden FRIEND you have there. Unfortunately it is very difficult to identify some patterned snakes by just a photo. Sometimes you have to count scales, look at the vent (poopie opening) to determine if it is single or split, etc. Many non-venemous snakes copy patterns and behaviors of venemous ones. I wish I could convince all of you scairdy snakes that these little slitheries are your FRIENDS. They eat frogs (that poison our furbutts), rodents (that spread disease) and other pesky little buggies. I must admit that it does startle me if I just happen upon a creepie crawlie unexpected, but I generally don't panic. I have been known to stop my car in the middle of the road to sush one to safety. On the other hand, I believe that snakes should remain outdoors and once they violate MY SPACE, things could get ugly.

I am trying to learn not to panic. I use to be real bad. I try to just shoe them out of my way. If they are in my house, I think I would have to leave. Taht would be where I draw the line. LOl

| LOL, Gatord, I take pictures of them too. Then I put them in scrapbooks, but I am weird like that. I have a nature scrapbook going....My folks have a big bull snake that lives under their porch and I am sure she has babies there every year. It unsettles me, but they refuse to shoo her off. They get a lot of field mice around their place, and the snakes eat them. They are farmers, so they say snakes are a farmer's friend. I keep trying to get a picture of her because she is very big, but she is elusive too.

Now don't get me started on spiders and flying insects. I am not sure which one I hate more! Up here in NH, every insect flies... i swear it! I am always running around like an idiot flinging my arms around the top of my head to get something away from me! LOL
