Donating YT 30K Club Member | A darling Maltese dropped off at shelter today Wednesday's are my day for volunteering at the no kill shelter. I help out in the Animal Health Dept where all the sick and new dogs and cats come. Just as I was leaving, the vet tech came in to the room with the most darling maltese in her arms. I asked where she came from and she said she was just dropped off. She was a 4 year old puppy mill rescue that the people got in January and had a new baby and couldn't deal with her issues. We weighed her and she was just under 5 lbs. She was one of the cutest babies I have seen. She had a little pink collar on and was so confused. The tech assured me she would either take her home (she lives above the shelter) or someone would. It just broke my heart. I know she will get adopted quickly though. I really wish people would take pet ownership as a life time commitment before getting one. I will keep you posted on her.

| ooohhh I wish I could come and get her. I would love to add a maltese to my 'family'! I'm sure she'll find a home quickly though. That is terrible and heart breaking. I could not imagine giving up my boys, new baby or not.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Really. I am sure it has to do with housebreaking as she was very sweet and the vet techs special needs chiuhauha and several cats were in the room and she was fine with them. Some days I don't know if I can go back it is just so sad. At least I know the staff are great with all the animals and they are safe and fed and all medical care is done. The little ones usually get adopted quickly. Since she was owner relinquish and not a stray they have vet records so she can be available for adoption in 3 days.

Bless your heart for doing what you do for these angels I tried it and I could not handle it I would come home emotionally drained, in tears and disliking people very much. I wanted to bring them ALL home.

| I see this all the time where I live and I am in a very small town! People constantly getting rid of their pets because they suddenly became an inconvenience in their lives, upsets me to no end.

| Patti, that is so sad. I understand how it can get so emotionally draining for you..... The animals are so fortunate that you're there for them. They must be so frightened being in a strange place. You're being there giving them comfort and a loving touch to soothe their fears is one of the kindest thing you can do for them...... Bless you for the good your doing.....

| You are so sweet to help these furkids. It is very heartbreaking to see how sad and scared they are, but I know that a kind face and loving heart like yours helps them get through it. |

| Oh Patti that is so sad but it does happen so often. I love Maltese pups they are just beautiful. Thank you for helping and being able to volunteer with the shelter. Please let us know how things so and when she is adopted.

| I think they lady should be commended for being wise enough to know she can't handle both a puppy mill dog, with issues, and a new baby...and taking it to where it would stand a chance at being adopted. As far as what will she do if her child has issues, well a child is not a dog and in an 'either/or' situation it's the dog that has to go. It may very well be a very difficult and heartbreaking situation for her but she made what she thought was a selfless decision in the best interest of the dog and her family. All that being said, I could not abandon any of my dogs - issues or not - all of our past dogs died of old age with us but that doesn't mean everyone else has that same determination or ability.

"A child is not a dog"? In my eyes, there's no difference. I think people who see dogs as 'just dogs' would see things the way you do, "'either/or' situation it's the dog that has to go." SAD!!
