| ![]() He is so cute! I think in the puppy stage the bigger breeds can get a little rough because they don't realize how big they are and their strength. But I think it could definitely work. My two played with full grown Chow Chows as pups and got along with them fine.

![]() We are feeding them together and daily walks around the yard. They are sharing toys and Cooper tries to slip into his crate with him. lol Now, if I can just get Maddie outta her bad mood we would be one step closer. ![]() | |

| ![]() I have decided he can stay. The breeders told Josh they would definitely take him back if we felt it was too much or saw it would not work with the girls. When we told them we were keeping him, we were told the offer still stands. We start puppy obedience in March. I am excited but nervous, no idea why? I guess the fear of having the only dog in class that just don't get it. lol This first week has been very, um, intersting. I have almost lost my husband to the couch and Ernie at night. The girls and I have sorta enjoyed the extra room in bed. lol Overall, he has been very well behaved and tries to play nice with the girls, he just doesn't realize how big he is. In the week he has been here, we have yet to hear him growl or show any temper problem. In the weeks prior to bringing him home, Josh had visited and watched him with his brothers and sisters and interacting with his mother. Thank goodness she did a wonderful job taking care of most of the puppy behaviors that can be an aggravation. (nipping, biting, eating manners) Another case where staying with the mom and siblings proves beneficial. His parents have wonderful temperments with people and other dogs. I know this comes from the work of their owners: training and TONS of socialization. We live in an area has no pet friendly facilities. I look forward to making the weekly trips to Knoxville for class and plan to visit pet stores each trip. Last edited by MaddiesMommie; 02-19-2011 at 08:40 AM. |

Pits have this terrible reputation yet Goldens have this "gentle family dog" reputation, but it just goes to show you how stereotypes and the media can lead a person to believe certain things. And another reason why ban legislation just does not work! Pugs are the on the list for crying out loud. Imagine being told you were banned from living in a certain place just because you had a Yorkie. That's why I always hate to hear people saying on this forum that Pits need to be banned!!! You can't just ban a whole breed, otherwise they can start to do it with every breed. PS - I love Goldens and grew up with one. Nothing against them. But again, since they are a popular breed, more and more people are breeding them for greedy reasons thus ruining another breed. It's so sad ![]()

| ![]() We have two french mastiff's and Izzy who weighs 3.5 pounds. Our Mastiff's are 5 years old and very careful around Izzy. They have grown up with cats and are wonderful with Izzy. She loves to play with them and they like to roll her around with their noses. I never leave them alone with her but wouldn't leave a large breed dog alone with my children either. They are wonderful with children just wouldn't be very responsible of me to leave dogs that size alone with a child or smaller animal. Good luck to you. ![]() |

| ![]() We had a Male Golden for almost 14 years. A real great dog, gentle, smart, and liked everyone. Now in our subdivion, I see mean, vicious Goldens, and not real bright as one got away from the owner was I was walking Carlo and charged him. Carlo was great, he just knocked him over and held him until I gave the release command. The neighbor got mad at me, for Carlo knocking their dog over. I just shook my head and said it could have been a lot worse. To watch the dog, and work with it. I would never buy another GOlden again, except from a Great Breeder. BYB's ruined this one great breed. |

| ![]() Well I am here to say that it can work out with work on your part. I fostered a litter of pit bull puppies and ended up keeping one of the girls that is "Skittish". I KNOW she does not like cats, other dogs and kids. Knowing this, I NEVER leave her unattended around my dogs or granddaughter. I know when she is "Uncomfortable" and when she is we remove her or what ever is bothering her. We have "group" play time and then we have private play time. I have more problems with the little dogs going after her than I have with her trying to get the little dogs. I had her and 7 of her siblings at 6 weeks of age and I had a bulldog and a yorkie at the time. The bulldog is my "Mother" and she will put everyone who is not playing right in their place. They all have accepted that and know where they stand in the pecking order. Yes, I am at the top. One word from my and Bee will back down...even from chasing the neighbors cat that came into my fenced yard. Bee is my biggest dog and she was brought in when my other 2 dogs were already here and established. So read all you can and learn all there is to know. Never let your guard down and always be on top of things and it will work out just fine. Training for ALL of your dogs is a great idea. The little ones have to also know how to interact with the big dogs and not just the other way around. You will find that they all can get along and live happily together. |
