| Talk about a bad night!! Have you ever wondered if there is a dark cloud over your head! Ours started with the mail man hitting one of our dogs, Rosie got the viral infection and had to go to the er vet, Yogi passes, and now the night from you know where!! Let me start by saying that we have been leaving the garage door cracked for my two beagles to come in and sleep during the night. With the snow on the ground, it is so cold. There dog houses have beds and hay but it is still cold. So, we bought two dog beds and have been letting them in at night. We leave it cracked so they can go potty. At 12:15 am I wake up to my two beagles going crazy in my garage. This goes on for 30 minutes and then it hits me! A skunk was in the garage and he/she was spraying. The smell overwhelmed my house. Of course, this was the one night my husband was out of town and it was just me and the boys. I didn't know what to do. At 1:30, I call my dad who comes to the house and lets me know that the beagles have the skunk trapped under my car. He was going to shoot it but couldn't get a shot because of my car. I told him to forget it and sent him home. Keep in mind, the skunk has sprayed numerous times at this point. Stinky!!! Two hours and 15 minutes later, the barking stops! I thought yeah! the skunk must have gotten away. The odor was horrible but I was so thankful I was going to get some sleep. Got up this morning and the smell is still overwhelming. Well, guess what!! They killed they skunk and left it in the garage!! However, they didn't sleep in there after that. Both of them stink to high heaven, my garage needs to be fumigated, my house still has a skunk smell, and my car stinks! Any one know how to kill this smell!! The body has been removed but the stink is still here!! I washed my car but I can still smell it. I am terrified that I will go to work Monday smelling like a skunk! Any ideas??

| I'm sorry you are having such a rough time!! I've heard that you can wash your dogs with tomato juice to remove skunk smell. I don't know if it works, but you can give it a try. Baking soda also removes odors. You could sprinkle some around your garage. Also, my friend had a flood in her basement and it left a smell and she put kitty litter in pans all around and it absorbed the odor. I wish only good luck for you from now on!!!! |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Wow, what an Ordeal for sure! I'm so sorry you are going through this alone. I would definitely take car to one of those automatic blasting car washes. They use extreme hot water & it washes underneath car as well. I'd also buy Febreeze & spray like crazy in house and garage. I found this for cleaning the dogs & also other recommendations: Good Luck! I quickly wiped her face with a wet towel, and did the bath with tomato juice, which did not work. Next day on internet found the formula of baking soda in dish with vinegar added and using the foam to clean her. Then a bath with Dawn original dish soap. That worked great. My groomer did warn me that the smell does come back when the dog gets damp, and that is true. I should probably have replaced her collar and that would have helped with the smell a bit (nylon collar). They have been sprayed 3 times this year alone! Nothing works as well as this product. You can even get it on their face, unlike other products where you have to avoid the face. Nothing works as well! It can also be used all around the house which is very nice! I always carry some for the next time my dogs have an encounter with a skunk, and it will happen. Thank you so much for all the information. I will try to do some of these and see how it works. I did the car wash. But I can still smell it. Lol. I think it will smell for a while. I did think about Febreeze. I am burning my Scenty like crazy right now. Man skunk smell is strong and sticks around. It was a Kodak moment trying to remove the dead body this morning. I hope we never have this much fun again. Ha ha.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Your dogs kept going after the skunk even after it sprayed? They must have noses of steel!

| My boys got skunked over the summer when a skunk somehow got into our fenced in pool area. YUCK!!!! I read numerous times to wash them with a mixture of white vinegar, baking soda and dish soap. Also you might want to try spraying your garage and car with Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover cleaner. Use this in the interior and exterior of your car and wash it with water. Good Luck!!!! when my dogs got skunked outside we immediately threw them in the pool about 10x to swim some of the smell away, then bf washed them about 3x with regular dog shampoo while I went to get the other stuff at the store. When I got back we washed them about 3 more times with the mixture of vinegar, baking soda and dawn dish soap. This worked sooo well that they were able to sleep with us in bed that night like they normally do and we didn't even smell them. The only place that had a tiny bit of stink when we sniffed them up close was the tip of their snout!

| I'm so, so sorry. What a terrible night and you have one where the smell will linger for a long, long time. You'll have to leave the garage open to air out. Lots of air freshener and time are the only things I know that will help the garage. I'm so sorry your husband was gone when this happened. Wouldn't you know? That's the way it always happens! I hope the smell goes away quickly, but in my experience it lingers for a long time.
