| I am so shook! Today when I came home on my lunch hour, I saw this note hanging on our door saying that our phone company tree trimmers would be in our area. The last time our electric company trimmed a tree...they slaughtered it! I am still so upset over what they did to that beautiful tree! Anyway, I immediately called the number on the note and told them I am very concerned about any trimming being done on my trees. Then I saw the truck up the street, so walked up to talk to them. They told me they would take as little off as possible and that they don't slaughter trees, but this has been eating away at me all day, so I made up signs to put in my yard in hopes of getting their attention tomorrow when they come into my yard. I have to work, so I can't be here. The last time I was out of town and came home to that ridiculous, pitiful tree. They are all going to think I'm a crazy woman by the time this is over, but I just don't want anyone messing up my trees! I love my yard...except for the ugly mountain pine, and I want to keep it that way! Here's pics of the mountain pine, before and after. I hope they just decide not to mess with me and leave! *Nervous Laugh* Here's what the signs say...only they are in very large fonts! Notice Klimple Tree Service I left a message on your answering machine yesterday and also talked with two of your workers regarding trimming trees in my yard. I was told you would take as little as possible off my trees. I am sure that you will, but since talking to them, I went out and looked at my trees. I was figuring that you would only take off the east side where the power lines are, and now I’m concerned you may trim on the west side of the trees because there is a phone line going to the neighbors across our yard. Do not do any trimming on the west side of our trees, or the south or north. If SRT doesn’t like it, tell them to reroute the line, but they are not allowed to touch those areas of the trees. The evergreen trees will never grow branches back once cut and also, this is not the proper time of year to trim evergreens. That should happen in the early Spring. These are old trees and subject to disease if traumatized. I do not wish to have ANY pruning of my trees. I was told once, by a tree trimmer, that evergreens don’t cause damage to the wires. They are very gentle on the wires which shows by these trees having never caused damage in any sort of storm. I want to note that the phone line going to our neighbors was down during the October 5th storm, but it was not our trees that took it down, but the neighbors. I do not want to notice anything missing from my trees when viewing them from my home! Also, if any trimming is to be done, I would prefer myself or my husband to be present, which wouldn’t be possible until Tuesday, November 15th. Thank you for your attention to this matter, Connie |

| LOL...... that tree is silly looking.... I am going to tell you something though..... i HIGHLY DOUBT that the workers are going to take the time to read youre very well thought out note, they will probably trim as they please and then leave, the end. .. . The only way you are going to get your way is to call their boss and schedule something. Another tree trimming story: the city trimmed my parents tree because there was a branch that was posing danger to their house.... the tree is very old and JUST off my parents property. The workers cut the branch (without notification) and let the branch fall into my parents front yard. Well, my mom has LOTS of pots and plants and yard ornaments ect... all over the place and upon further inspection we discovered that they had broken two very large pots that held some small fruit trees, the bird bath was tipped and broken and several other things..... but did anything come of it? NOoooooooooooo the city pretty much said "tough luck" |

| I'm afraid Orinske is probably right. They will probably butcher the tree if it suits them. My husband used to be a landscaper and he says the only thing to do is to plant new trees well away from the power lines. He says the life expectancy for trees in the urban forest is nowhere near the life expectancy for other trees of the same species mostly because of compacted soil, pollution, etc., but power company trimming sure doesn't help. |

| We had the same thing in our town, they trimmed the trees to have the power lines run through the top. WELL, the trees ended up looking like a big V in the middle, the town was outraged, it made the headlines. But the worst part is the trees Looked so bad,,that in the end, the removed them entirely! It was a shame. I will look and see is I can find the article w/ pic's, you wont believe it!

| Here is ONE of the many articles...no pics.. Dover council complains tree trimming went too far By JOE MIZER, T-R Staff Writer Officials at Dover City Council Monday night expressed their outrage over the “trimming” of trees in Dover Burial Park off N. Wooster Ave. and northward into Parral. The trimming, which was done last week by Asplundh, a contractor for American Electric Power, has left some of the trees in such poor condition that Councilman Dan Minnis said they probably will have to be removed. Mayor Richard Homrighausen and Service Director David Douglas agreed. The mayor and service director, however, said they will have a tree trimming contractor hired by the city take a look at the trees to see if anything can be done to save them. Minnis brought the matter to council’s attention in a letter to the administration in which he said the utility right of way tree trimmers had produced “an absolute hideous sight, with how they cut out the middle of the trees on cemetery property.” He said he might be overreacting, “but I was just astounded when I drove by these trees in the morning on my way to work, and then witnessed the ‘finished product’ later that evening on my way home.” Douglas said the trees are in pretty bad shape. He noted that the tree trimmers were within their right of way when the trimming was done. “This was mutilation in my book,” Homrighausen said afterward. He said Cemetery Superintendent James Mizer told him that the tree trimmers had asked about a month ago to remove the two trees they trimmed last week, but Mizer told them that the city valued its trees and to trim them as usual. “You ask somebody to trim it, you don’t think they’re going to butcher it,” Homrighausen said. In a related matter, Councilman Robert Mueller said the tree trimmers were from the same firm that went along the former Ohio and Erie Canal right of way “and trimmed everything down there and left it lay.” He said he believed that issue was still in committee, but Councilman Tim Tarulli, Service Committee chairman, said that while the issue wasn’t on his committee’s agenda, he would look into the matter. Mueller also commented that the city’s recycling dumpster on E. Broadway, across from the Municipal Light Plant, is being abused and misused by fly-by-night operators for composting materials. He said it’s a good program, but it’s for residential use only. And if the misuse continues, “I’ll be the first one to come up here and ask that it be yanked,” Mueller said.

| Well...so far...so good! I'm home on my lunch hour and my notices are gone and the trees are untrimmed. Maybe they will just turn it into the phone company and say they've got a crazy lady on their hands. LOL I'll do anything to keep them from mutilating my trees! Interesting article rrosenberry! I've seen that around this city too...and when they cut them in that V shape, it makes each side heavy and most of those trees broke during our last ice/snow storm. |
