| We may be getting a kitten in the morning! Tips needed! Hi guys - it has been a while since I've been on! I started the RN program at my school so I have been a very busy girl w/not much time for the 'net. But my husband and I are going to possibly adopt a gorgeous little Siamese mix kitten in the morning and I couldn't think of who I'd rather share the news with! I also would love any tips and tricks. I'm not sure how the furbabies will react, although the foster momma of the kitten says she absolutely loves other animals and at this point prefers them to people. I have never owned my own cat - so I'm totally unsure of what to do/buy/everything I hope everyone is doing really well and please leave and tips for me here! |

| Make sure you get the same kind of kitty litter her foster mom has. Don't just assume she will find the box, take her to the box and rub her paws in it. We had a Siamese cat. She was wonderful, loving and had the loudest voice I ever heard and we had her for 17 1/2 yrs.

| I recently rescued a few month old seal point Siamese kitten. We've named her Zoey. Bella really needed a friend. She's been very lonely since my divorce. My ex kept our lab, Bridget (who worshiped the ground he walked on) and I kept Bella, since she was my baby. Bella was unsure about her at first but Zoey had been around a lot of other animals. (My best friend helps run an animal rescue and found her for me). They play together nicely now. Chase toys together, chase each other around the house and sleep together. Bella's around 15 pounds, Zoey's itty bitty still so I monitor them when they play to make sure Bella's not getting too rough with her. (Bella does like to pretend bite at Zoey and growl at her)

| I have a cat that is about 20 years old. She does not like Rosie at all. I think she is too old to put up with a brat 3 year old yorkie. The biggest problem I have is making sure Rosie stays out of the cat food and litter box. She will also try to bully the cat. But I don't let the cat run loose so it works out for us. She is too old to be outside and she can't control her bladder to get to have free run of the house. This keeps them separate from each other. As far as what to buy. Of course you will need dishes, cat food, litter box, and litter. I would buy toys because cats like to play. Also, I would get a scratching post or your furniture will be made into one. The only other thing I can think of is the hairball "stuff". I am not sure what to call it. But it keeps them from having hairballs. Even short hair cats need it. Good luck with the addition. Maybe if they are both young enough it will work out for you.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | One bit of advice I would give is feed them separately and do not free feed if each can get at the others' food. The dietary needs of cats and dogs are very different and what is a good diet for one would be hazardous to the other. And don't put the litterbox where the dog can get at it. Especially if you will be using clumping litter. Knowing that a dog will at least sample just about anything, you don't want to deal with what is essentially clay in your dog's digestive system. And they are naturally attracted to both for some reason.

| You are in for so much fun! Kittens are so wonderful! We have five cats! All of them before we had our yorkies. Some of the cats play mamma with our lab and lick her face and clean her up! It's so adorable! She's so gentle. Our little yorkies are to hyper for them to do that! Bonnie our new little one chases all of the cats but they just run and ignore her! It is right about feeding them seperately! I always put the cats food up on the washing machine or a stool so they can eat in peace. And watch the litter box, the dogs do like to eat what's in there! ( I know ewwww!) Kittens are also fragile so watch your little fur babies, and be careful of the cat toys, they may not be great for the dogs. Catnip stuffing, tiny furry mice, the cats really don't get much of a chance to play with them, before the dogs steal them then chew them up! I think it's easier to introduce a kitten than introducing a cat to a puppy. So good luck and post lots of pictures! Oh and good luck with your studies! It's been so long since I was in school to become an RN! It's so much work, I can remember I almost quit at least four times! Stay with it, it is all worth it in the end! I left the field for ten years to raise my kids (human kind1 lol) then went back with mother's hours! It's a career that has a lot of options! Good for you! All your little furbabies will relieve your stress!

The foster mom said she'd take her back if there were any issues - but I mean really I'll be so attached by then, you know? I go to see/get her in the morning and I'm so nervous I keep second guessing myself. | |

| You can get a covered litter box, that's what we have and the dogs are very good at not getting into that, and like I said you can put the cat food up on the sink or a stool, but our cats don't bother the dog food at all. The dogs however would scoff up the cat food, that's why I had to put it up. By the way I use the "Feline Pine" type cat litter and LOVE it! It's little pellets of pine, smells nice and I change it every two-three days. You only use an inch of it! Cats are very smart, litter box traiing should go very easy! Good luck with your anatomy! It's all memorization! Thank God I was only 19 when I had it and it was still a killer, that and chemistry! Anytime you need encouragement feel free to PM me!

| Kittens are so sweet. Our cat had kittens and we are keeping one so we have little kittens right now too. You can also put some low level type of fencing around the cat box and that will keep the yorkie out of it also. Good luck kittens are sweet

I know how it is to get attached. We have 5 dogs and 1 cat. Rosie is the only animal I actually picked out on my own. The cat was dumped off on us, one dog was being given away and she had not been taken care of, the other my husband picked out, one was on "death row" at the humane society so I brought him home, and finally the last is a baby of the the one my husband picked out and the one that had been neglected. No more babies for them thank goodness!! But I am attached to every one of them! Rosie is my baby but the rest are part of our lives too. I think you can make it work. And you will find out really quick what works and what does not. I am sure you will end up with a happy family.
