One bit of advice I would give is feed them separately and do not free feed if each can get at the others' food. The dietary needs of cats and dogs are very different and what is a good diet for one would be hazardous to the other.
And don't put the litterbox where the dog can get at it. Especially if you will be using clumping litter. Knowing that a dog will at least sample just about anything, you don't want to deal with what is essentially clay in your dog's digestive system.
