| ![]() I was sitting in my living room working and watching Good Morning America, I can still remember Diane Sawyer breaking down on camera. At the time I had a job at HP where I was required to travel a lot, usually I was gone on a Tuesday but so happens that day I was traveling since I had spent the weekend in Michigan visiting family. I spent the majority of the day tracking down co-workers along with my boss since he had NO idea where people were traveling to. RIP to those lost in the events on September 11th.

| ![]() I was getting ready for work when my mom called me and said "turn on the news....that terrorists had taken a plane into the WTC" I remember thinking "Terrorists??", "What kind of terrorists??" I soon learned about "those kind of terrorists" .....Funny, how sheltered we all felt before 9/11. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I was at home across the river in NJ. My Husband called me from the Turnpike pulled over and baffled by what he saw and told me to turn on the news. My brother watched from the river front and we waited impatiently all night to see who we knew that perished. My best friend was in the building, she stood at the turnstyle doors for many minutes watching debris and bodies falling and hundreds of people at the bottom could not get out. She put her coat over her head...like it was going to protect her.. and ran like hell. As she ran away she turned around as dozens followed her being hit by debris and getting killed. she did not think about it till much later how she was so lucky to get out. We lost a neighbor, a friend and a friends husband that day( who she was pregnant that day) and the baby was born on her husbands birthday to boot. For months upon months we waited for DNA to return. After the fifth phone call of a body part found of Andrew enough was enough. Many lives were spared that day and we rejoiced when they returned home all covered in white dust. |

I was also in 3rd grade when it happened. I remember sitting in class, when there was an announcement to turn the tv's on to the news. We all sat there and watched it happen... It was horrible!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Wow, I just the follwing to a friend of mine today: I can't believe it's been 9 years either dosen't that day just flood back into your memory. Like the moment you heard, what you were doing how the sky was so blue not a cloud anywhere. My most vivid memory was going into work and seeing this girl Martine being walked out by 2 other co-workers her boyfriend was in tower 2. Of coure this was no communication just what we were hearing on radios plugged in by people's desks. Luckily he left tower 2 as soon as tower 1 was hit but it was hours and hours before she knew. Then I was standing by my desk when the news came a plane was heading to PA. My legs buckled and I fell back in my chair, Cassie (my daughter) was in school in PA ( we had no idea where in PA it was going). I kept dialing her room phone over and over again calls weren't going through. Finally I reached her she was sleeping and had no idea what was going on. See all these thoughts just came back like it was yesterday. I will never forget.

| ![]() I was at Target when a bunch of people ran by me saying a plane hit the WTC. So all of us ran over to the electronic dept. It was surreal...to see all that awful devastation playing on 20 or so tv's! At that point I really did not realize the enormity of the situation. Boy was I wrong! ![]()

| ![]() My daughter and I were visiting my mom in Reno. As the shock set in and we realized that the world would never be the same again.... we couldn't wait to get back home to Hawaii. It took us about a week, and we literally kissed the ground when we landed. I'm darn proud to be an American, and so proud of our military and all they do to enable us to enjoy the lives that we have!

| ![]() Such a horrible day... I was teaching school and had taken one of my special education students to the office for medicine. The office had this awful news on TV. Really tough to go back and teach after that and not bring it up to the children. (We felt at the time that this was something that needed to be discussed at home first.)

| ![]() In San Francisco airport waiting at the gate to board our flight home from our honeymoon. We were scheduled on the first flight out, so with the time difference it was 9-ish here. All of the sudden a report was broadcast "due to the unfolding events in new york all flights are grounded across the country. " that was it. disturbing does not event describe the feeling. immediately everyone was reaching for their cell phones, trying to find out more information. people would stand up on their seat and shout out an update. since it was so early in CA most of the airport vendors / tvs were not on. i was trying to reach all of our family in maryland, and could reach no one. we heard the trade centers were hit, the white house, the pentagon, the capital, etc. etc. obviously some of the info was inaccurate. One of the airport bars finally opened, the tvs were all turned on and it was just in time for us to watch the second tower get hit, live. directly in front of me was a man in white arab garb, he was squatting down, rocking back and forth and laughing. the bar area was jammed with people and quite a few were noticing his behavior and you could see anger in their eyes. i was very close to saying something to him when an announcement was broadcast: "SFO is being closed and immediately evacuated. please proceed to the nearest exit. do not stop for food, beverage. please get out now" jack grabbed me and we started running down the corridors toward baggage claim / the exit. fortunately jack had the foresight several minutes before to re-book our courtyard hotel in san bruno, so we had a room. (we had driven in the night before, returned our rental and had stayed at an airport hotel since our flight was so early). we got down to baggage claim and literally found a mountain of luggage. everything was just piled one bag on top of each other. people were climbing the baggage tower, throwing bags around in an attempt to locate theirs. fortunately we each found our bag. we now headed outside, and were trying to find the courtyard shuttle to get off the airport property. we tried to get our rental back but were unable to do so. at this point every vehicle was being individually searched prior to being allowed on the airport property. we stood outside on an elevated drive for over an hour with several hundred other people. we could not go anywhere. when the shuttle finally arrived about 50 people were rushing to get on a 15 passenger van. we were lucky to get on board. people were on top of each others laps, laying down, etc. we probably had 35 on board. finally got back to the hotel and our room (luckily) was awaiting us. we spent the next 4 nights there. once we got somewhat settled into the hotel i was finally able to track down my relatives - who were all at a maryland hospital because my sister in law gave birth to my nephew between the first tower and second tower attack. it was our only good news of the day i will never, ever forget that awful day. a good friend was an investment banker who worked in the 2nd tower. she was delayed getting to work that day and just arrived on the property as the strikes occurred. she lived on the upper east side and literally took her shoes off and ran all the way home. she now lives in oregon. |

| ![]() I was just a few blocks away from the towers that day and ran outside when the planes hit. All my fellow New Yorkers were lining the street staring in disbelief as the towers were on fire- it was a sight I will never forget- so surreal- then when the buildings fell everyone started screaming and crying and scrambling. I lived near the number one trauma unit in the city and doctors were waiting for survivors but no one came. Everyone was running around for days posting pictures of loved ones that were missing. It was a horrible day for the country and for many families but as a whole New Yorkers banded together as a community that would do whatever it took to help one another- it made me proud and grateful to be a part of that . In remembrance of friends, family, policemen, firemen, Father Michael Judge and the one service dog who lost their lives that day- no matter how many years pass- WE WILL NEVER FORGET. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() I was at ETSU working out scholarship hours int he College of Ed. The dean of education came into the office and told everyone the college was closing early and for all students to go home. (ETSU in near Kingsport,TN where a K-25 plant is located. ) Johnson City was pretty much shut down. Many school systems across East TN were closed becasue of the K25 and Y12 plants. My husband and I gathered together with friends and watched the events unfold and said a lot of prayers. |
