I was at home across the river in NJ. My Husband called me from the Turnpike pulled over and baffled by what he saw and told me to turn on the news. My brother watched from the river front and we waited impatiently all night to see who we knew that perished. My best friend was in the building, she stood at the turnstyle doors for many minutes watching debris and bodies falling and hundreds of people at the bottom could not get out. She put her coat over her head...like it was going to protect her.. and ran like hell. As she ran away she turned around as dozens followed her being hit by debris and getting killed. she did not think about it till much later how she was so lucky to get out. We lost a neighbor, a friend and a friends husband that day( who she was pregnant that day) and the baby was born on her husbands birthday to boot. For months upon months we waited for DNA to return. After the fifth phone call of a body part found of Andrew enough was enough. Many lives were spared that day and we rejoiced when they returned home all covered in white dust. |
