| Does it make a difference if it runs perpendicular to the vein? Look at me using math terms in real life. ![]() I'm starting to think my bruised arm is my fault. I checked the mail, waiting for my paperwork to come in for my new job. They requested a health check and I flew out the door. I want to start working ASAP. I completely forgot to bring a bottle of water with me. I always carry one!

!Do you mean if the "squiggle" runs perpendicular? I think that's what you're asking. That's okay too, as long as it doesn't travel/grow noticeably longer. She may have also traumatized a near-by smaller vein -or- sometimes when the larger vein is blown (causing blood to pool), the whole area just looks awful for a while, and some other veins may be visible too. The main reason for some concern about a "squiggle" is that one that worsens can be a sign of infection (within the vein) - but this would be so rare with a sterile needle. For infection, you'd watch for redness, pain, heat, and swelling too.

| I really feel your pain! I have the worst veins in the world--not helpful if you've had heart surgery like I have. Before I found out I needed MV repair I tried to give blood while at work. The nurse poked at least twice in each arm before hitting it just right and then my vein blew out. You should have seen the hematoma that developed! I was technicolor and it freaked out my supervisor--so much so she let me have the rest of the day off! Thank God it was Friday!!! |

![]() LoALAnna, I didn't know I had difficult veins either! Until I had surgery and I left the hospital with bruised hands and arms. It was just nuts! At least you got the day off when you gave blood.

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Getting blood drawn is my absolute least favorite thing in the world. I refuse to get it taken out of my arm, I always have it out of my hand (the veins in my arm are very hard to find, and i had a few too many similar experiences to the one you had today). I just scheduled a surgery for the end of August, and was informed that I need to get labwork done for it. I am NOT happy haha! Feel better soon. hopefully the bruising will go down. Next time youre there shank them with the needle.

| I love the way you think Megan! If the nurse didn't know what she was doing, I can't do much worse right?

I once was so excited for a new job that I didn't want to take the time to do the cross-country hunt for my vaccination records. Thus, I was required to have some ridiculous number of shots. I was really thin at the time and the nurse stabbed the needles into my upper arm really hard such that I feared she would hit bone. It took everything within me to control my other arm from punching her or pushing her away. Later found out that everyone disliked this nurse's style of giving shots. | |

| I can see why. Sounds like she was giving you shots like they do in war movies. Have you seen those? Where someone is shot and the medic gives them a shot of morphine. The medic just stabs the wounded soldier in the arm or leg to give them relief.

| Yes! That was my thought that she watched too much tv or too many movies. |

| *Expletive* *expletive* *expletive* I just got a call from the nurse that drew blood last Friday telling me last weeks samples are no good and she wants to do it again. Would it be rude of me to ask for someone else? My arm is still a little purple, in fact I think the purpleness is spreading, the squiggly line hasn't changed but I don't want her to blow another vein.
