I can't pick up my baby.
 
I went to the dr today and they took some blood. Well... the flow stopped. :p The tech that was drawing the blood started wiggling the needle. :eek: It didn't help and then she pinched my arm real hard when put the cotton ball over the "wound." My arms all bruised up and super sore. I can't even reach down to pick up Kaji. :( It's only been an hour and it looks pretty bad.

Ice it and see if that helps with the bruising. I hate when they can't do a proper blood draw. :(

She wiggled it, with the needle still inside my arm!!! I know I have sensitive skin, and that nurses have always had a problem inserting needles and finding veins on me. That's nothing new, but for her to wiggle it. :eek: She pinched it too.

When I was a teenager, I had major surgery to remove a brain tumor. One night the night nurse had to re do the IV, but she did it totally wrong I guess she missed the vein and my whole hand swelled up. I only weighed 80 lbs at the time and my hand looked huge. My surgeon came in early in the morning and was livid to see my hand the way it was...he got someone else in immediately and had the other nurse watch to see how it's done correctly.
I'd say your nurse needs to re learn how to take blood.:eyebrow2:

I asked why, but the nurse/tech lady was too busy running to the back to check on her kid. I only went there because it's walking distance from my house, and my reg doctor is still in Irvine (40 miles away). I'm NEVER going back. Except for my results that is.

I have come home from outpatient surgery with both my hands bruised. The nurses couldn't find a place to put the IV so they kept poking and slapping the back of my hand until they found a place to put it. So I wasn't surprised she couldn't find a "good" vein.

When I get blood drawn, they have to "fish" around sometimes, too. I hate it, but it's caused when they go to put the needle in and the vein moves (wiggles, rolls, different terms are used) and they have to "fish" to catch it. :(

Hope your arm feels better soon! :)

Thanks everyone! My arm feels a lot better today. I can unbend it without hurting too much. :D It does look odd to me. I have this red/purple squiggly mark about 1/2 an inch from where the actual needle went in. :confused: I've never seen that happen before.

You can try to put warm compresses on it to help alleviate the pain. Sound like she blew a vein and it bled under the skin. Its basically a big bruise. Keep an eye on it..I'm not sure about a red squiggly line. If it runs down the top of the actual vein, call your doctor.

I always try to drink a lot of water before getting my blood drawn. Being dehydrated doesn't help when they are looking for veins. I too, have horrible veins and they love to go for my hands which I really hate.

At least that explains the squiggly thing.

That's what I was going to say too. Also, if the "squiggly" line travels/grows - call your doc then too.

She should not have wiggled it around to that extent, honestly. All that does is traumatize the area and hurt the patient. It's like she was trying to "stab" a vein and, um, ya can't do that. She should have stopped and looked at your other arm. Also, have they ever tried a butterfly draw on you? (it sort of looks like, well, a little butterfly w/ a needle?) Using a butterfly isn't always possible, but it's something to ask about.

Ya poor thing, geez! OUCH!
